I've heard from multiple sources that the streamers have the full release game and are allowed to show anything they desire come the lifting of the embargo.

This includes full story spoilers.

I don't understand that. It completely ruins any of the surprise that still remains in the game and it treats the backers who paid money when it was riskiest get shafted by spoiler discussion everyone (and some, like me, are moderators or administrators of communities meaning there isn't much in the way of avoiding them)

If you think the game is good enough to put out to the streamers and let them show off everything (and some like Sidestrafe will have manage to get through the entire campaign and have seen everything in the game by then) Then please distribute the keys to us backers and let us play so we can actually experience the game fresh rather than having everything spoiled for us by the time it comes out.

Edit, some confirmation of the rumours I have heard has been helpfully shared below

Christopher Odd stated in his discord that as of tomorrow he will be putting up videos in a new build of the game. He has no embargo point and can play through as much of the story as he likes and that his old save files are not compatible with the new build.

His direct quote: "Today's Battletech will be the last one of the pre release build. Starting tomorrow, I can show the FULL game release." when asked if he can go past the current embargo mission he responded: "as far as we can. save files dont transfer tho. which is actually great cuz i'll do a lot differently".

and BradM73 has helpfully agreed to confirm it

They do not have the release build. In fact their builld is several weeks old.
Come the lifting of the embargo, which most likely ist the release date(24th), they have to start over with the release-version...

I agree. Not because I think people cannot be expected to avoid spoilers in threads/streams if they want to, but because I think it is bad from a marketing perspective: You wouldn't show a full film as a trailer if you want to sell a film. Or a book, or whatever creative content. Sure, the "interactive" part of games makes them kinda unique in this setting, but still, this is a game that has a strong storytelling aspect. It might not be wise to spoil all that.

I've spoken to multiple streamers/Youtubers who say the build they have been playing in preparation for release is not the same that has been streamed and they say it is the full build

Then just uh, dont't watch the streams?

And avoid the forums, and the chat areas, including places that I moderate.

Quite impossible, since they are still tweaking the game. Or have been as of two hours ago :)

They may have a different build for the 20th, with different embargos, but it is definetly not the most up-to-date build

Ok, I have to soften my former argument: I DO think it is really annoying to avoid spoilers, but possible (by actually avoiding ANY info you get on the game) and I wouldn't want to be forced to do it. Especially not when you are excited af. One could do it, though. (I am in a "fine" position here, as I won't have any time to look here from the 20th to the 24th ;) )

Still, don't think it's wise to spoil that much.

Its a silly choice. I disapproved when the dark souls 3 publisher allowed streamers to have it a week ahead. Granted that game had greater consequences because of the multiplayer edge

Personally i just dont get the concept of watching someone play the full game a whole 4 days ahead of you. Lol

Doesn't make it right that backers have to dodge full story spoilers like this in the first place.

In my mind, if they are opening the floodgates, backers should get the game too. It's that simple. Don't ruin the backer's experience for getting weekend hype. If anything more backers playing would create more hype because it would raise the rankings on steam.

The backers entrusted the company with lots of money when the game wasn't a sure thing, when many kickstarters are known to fail. Now to demand that they go into media blackout so as to not be spoiled on the game they helped make happen while others get to play and distribute the entire story everywhere for roughly four and a half days?

It is simply a [Mod Edit: Language] way to treat the people who showed you the most trust.

It is a proven marketing strategy, You pay almost nothing and lots of people see your game from streamers that a large portion of there viewership nearly blindly trusts the streamer so if he says this game is good, you just got a ton of free positive advertising and sales you might not have ever gotten otherwise.

A couple of million dollars in all reality is NOT a lot of money at all.

Would I like the game now sure, does it bother me about the streamers having it early, not in the slightest. It will grow the game and make it more successful so I get better expansions in the future.

I've spoken to multiple streamers/Youtubers who say the build they have been playing in preparation for release is not the same that has been streamed and they say it is the full build
They've all had the full build in various iterations. Sidestrafe's stream got stopped because he played a version that was only meant for a weekend arrangement, and he went beyond that that timelimit. Cohh at the same time, appearently had yet another build, but Cohh is partnered with GoG, so he had different arrangements, and could continue to stream. What they both had in common though, is that both those builds were full builds already there, hence they had NDA that allowed them to play to a certain mission in the game, and no further.

Come 20th, they may indeed be playing the final release build (which would be different from all others of course) but I highly doubt, that the NDA of that lone mission and no further, is getting lifted.

Before blowing it more out of proportions than it has to be, wait for official confirmation, and take it from there.

Cheers :)

The question should be, are the streamers embargo lifted, or is the press embargo? The press has the most recent stable version they play about a week before the embargo so they can get a good feel for the game and write a review on it.

If the streamers like Cohh are included in that, PDX might see it as extra press (especially if the streams have been well received so far).

I'm not watching any more since it only is a few days until I have it and I want to be surprised past the embargo story mission.

By that same argument giving the backers who already paid money YEARS before the game was close to complete is also a sound marketing strategy. It creates good will among those who trusted you, rises your standing on the various charts of players playing and owning the game, and creates even more of a presence of the game for new people to see it being active. Backers are also usually the most positive about the game.

They've all had the full build in various iterations. Sidestrafe's stream got stopped because he played a version that was only meant for a weekend arrangement, and he went beyond that that timelimit. Agreed. I would like confirmation one way or the other, But I also want to voice my opinion that I don't want to have to dodge full story spoilers for the better part of a week.

I have heard from multiple sources, including at least one who has an NDA that has stated full story spoilers will be allowed so I dont' think I'm jumping the gun here even though we haven't had HBS or PDX verify it.

The question should be, are the streamers embargo lifted, or is the press embargo? The press has the most recent stable version they play about a week before the embargo so they can get a good feel for the game and write a review on it.

Make sure you stay off the forums too, you know any spoilers in the streams will be posted here too.

Starting tomorrow, I can show the FULL game release." when asked if he can go past the current embargo mission he responded: "as far as we can. save files dont transfer tho. which is actually great cuz i'll do a lot differently"

He only releases about 30-40 minutes of content a day though. So he might have a special deal since they aren't concerned about the 3-6 hours he is going to make it into the game before release. If only people with lower playtimes have this deal it won't be too bad. If someone like sidestrafe who will happily play 10 hours a day can also play as far as he likes the full story will be out before the game is.

Quite impossible, since they are still tweaking the game. Or have been as of two hours ago :)

They may have a different build for the 20th, with different embargos, but it is definetly not the most up-to-date build

Full build doesn't mean final. They were almost certainly have a day 1 patch.

Before blowing it more out of proportions than it has to be, wait for official confirmation, and take it from there.

Cheers :)

I think this is the best way to look at it. I wouldn't worry too much about hearsay until we know for sure.

Also, just as food for thought. Very few people received these preview copies for streaming. The streamers that I have watched have voiced that they will restart the game at launch with the full released copy. So, I'm thinking that even if the embargo does technically lift on the 20th, we might not see new content going live until the game launches properly and Streamers are starting their fresh Let's Plays with the final release build.

After all, why Stream on a preview build for 4 days unrestricted, when they will most likely have to start over anyway for the final build.
