I'm playing as Norse Russia and my heir is Slavic and zealous so I thought there is a possibility to reform the Slavic pagans. Is there any good strategy to reform the Slavics?

Conquer all of de-jure lands of Rus with ambition. Create Rus, build as much retinue as you can (possibly 1000). Banish/imprision/revoke all of vassal titles. Get new courtiers with your religion/culture. Use subjugation on Ruthenia(if exist) or use single conquer casus beli on slavic lands. If Poland forms get border with it and use life-time subjugation. You should focus on Novogrod. Kiev, Pruszkow holy sites. Before slavic reformation tutor your heirs and avoid traits that drops piety so you will get 750 piety faster.

Remember that you can still fabricate-claim provinces if they're same-religion or not adjacent to you, so you can snipe holy sites from petty kings so long as you can walk there. (Invaluable for the Pomeranian one on the island.)

It sounds like really obvious advice but I can't tell you how many times when playing a pagan I forgot I could actually do that. Paganism spoils me rotten.

Everytime I'm playing as slavic, a problem is not to get 3 holy sites or 750 piety. The real problem is to get moral authority 50% or higher.

County conquests give one percent, looting a temple gives one per cent - both last for 20 years. Go nuts on the romuva. Also take any site thats not held by a slav pagan if thats a problem (

If the slavics are losing holy wars, you will need to participate (two times I have looked, the slavs ironically tend to rack up a large positive score, because the christian AI can't handle attrition.)

Actually not that hard to control all 5 Holy Sites once you've formed Russia... Birlad is near the southern border of Ruthenia and almost always held by either Orthodox Bulgaria or Tengri Hungary... then all you need to do is strike out for Rugen and Plock (fabricate a claim if it's held by Slavic followers) and you have all 5, no need for the 750 Piety/50% MA.

Plus I like to RP and then give Rugen to the Slavic High Priest as a theocracy

I've done it twice, once as Poland and once as Kiev. As Poland I ending up fabricating a lot of claims and took all the sites. Though if you unite Poland fast enough that Dyre and Rurik are still alive, you might be able to conquest your way to Novgorod and Kiev. Kiev definitely, Novgorod might be harder.

But for Kiev, well it won't help you now, but what I did was start as Rurik. Yes, I started as Rurik for a Kiev game. :p I refrained from picking an ambition til I assassinated the count and his one heir that controls your southernmost starting county, because it's in de jure Kingdom of Kiev. Move capital, take ambition Become King of Kiev, start subjugating. Mostly I did this because frankly Kiev has better counties than Rus, so I wanted my demesne there. Anyways, that gets you two sites. Lifetime subjugation on whoever the largest Polish ruler is, because even if they haven't formed the kingdom it's a safe bet they'll have Plock by the time you finish subjugating Kiev. Also, you want to stay Norse until you're ready to reform, so you can still get conquest CBs on Slavic rulers.

While doing the above first fabricate a claim on Rana/Rugen (the island holy site), then start improving relations with the Magyars/Hungarians. Because as long as you're still Norse and you own Kiev proper (and preferably all of the kingdom) you can easily get Birlad with just a couple conquests. But if you don't have high relations with the Hungarians, they will call a conquest on you very soon after you take Birlad. They don't seem to really care about Torki, or the Russian lands, but both times they went after Birlad after I took it. So you might want to save it for last and switch religions/reform ASAP once you do.

Well, no matter how you do it, as a Russian/former Norse it's pretty easy to get all 5, or at least 4. The only real problem will be Hungary.

I started as Rurik, he died relatively soon, Helgi/Oleg takes over, with Slavic religion, which lets you DOW still-Norse Kiev (stays Norse all game 95% of the time imo). Dyre had just formed K_Ruthenia so I invaded and gobbled it up in one go

The only tough ones are Plock and Rugen because they're usually held by Slavic followers so you need to fabricate a claim

Banish/imprision/revoke all of vassal titles. Get new courtiers with your religion/culture.
How do you deal with your other vassals hating you?
I conquered the avars and want to get rid of them, but it says that would cause me to become a tyrant and all of my vassals will get negative opinions, including those of my faith and culture.
Im a slavic pagan king if that helps...

Which other vassals? You remove all of them, and only when all are removed do you invite new ones to your court.

Start by revoking ones that will accept. Then try to imprison anyone you have just cause against. Well, we try to fail imprisoning them, since if it fails, they'll rebel against you, usually dragging an extra vassal into the war. Upon victory, they're imprisoned, and having rebelled against you, they're traitors, so you can revoke two of their titles for free (well, without tyranny).

Finally, build up your retinue as much as you can, and forcibly revoke the last ones in a big war against the last remaining vassals.

PS: Isn't necroing frowned upon here?

Well, I dont want to remove all of them. Some of them are pretty nice people from prominent houses I have friendships with and want to keep them.
But my newly acquired territories are full of tengri avars and they are annoying, to put it mildly :D

Im going for those holy sites to reform the slavic faith and I have an ingame beef with the avars for making my only son an eunuch.
So yeah... They gotta go xD

Ehrm, removing half of your vassals will cause *HUGE* penalties to your relations with the others; -290 isn't unheard of. Even if you're, say, only removing avar tengri, your east-slavic slavic vassals will still get the full penalty.

Hmm, if you can get your laws high enough, you can get 'religious revocation', which only upsets vassals of that faith.

I thought that was referring to religious titles?
Like, you pass that law to be able to revoke bishops, shamans and the like, not noble holdings like castles/tribes or cities.
Or in your case, vassals of different religion xD
