Any North American players want to lay odds on the fact that Strategy First won't have the patch out by Wednesday, when the game is in general release?

I'm betting they won't.

I don't know a lot about the internal politics between publisher/producer. But from a casual outsiders view SF is probably my favorite publisher.

Why?

Because SF releases the kinds of games that very, very few others would. Obviously they don't have the clout with the industry that a mainstream publisher would. They aren't a Microsoft, they aren't a Blizzard. It can't be easy for such a small publisher to run in such a cut-throat field.

SF is definitely a mixed blessing. Remember last year's manual screw-up causing a delay in the North American HOI release? The mood on these boards was very ugly. Let's hope nothing like that happens with Victoria.

Hear! hear! I know SF gets a lot of flack for releasing their patches a day late; and that fiasco with the manual printing of HOI last year....BUT....They do release Paradox games; and that's a blessing. We shouldn't bite the hand that feeds us.

Not JUST Paradox games either.

I learned about EU2 through the Kohan Forums. Another SF game, which was probably the finest RTS game ever produced, very innovative, very fun. Also had a very small community.

A lot of the games that SF releases are the kinds of games you can't help but look at and wonder if they will make a profit. Which leads me to wonder if they release games they themselves like, rather then just looking at the bottom line.

Further across the board, their games tend to favor gameplay over wiz-bang graphics.

Besides.. I like Strategy First... without them there would never have been an EU2, Hearts of Iron or Victoria...
