Haven't played CK2 in about 6 months, playing again today for the first time.
So I started as the Byzantine emperor in 1081 and the strategos of Bononia was a viceroy (I re-started after I noticed this to make sure and he begins in the 1081 date as a strategos, not a doux).
The strategos of Bononia did something naughty and I got the popup telling me I could imprison him. Since he was a member of a faction I decided I would imprison him, but he escaped my guards and raised his flag in rebellion. I won easily and imprisoned him. I left him in prison. Eventually I got a message of him complaining and I chose the option to "release him, he can owe me a favour" or something. He gets released, he owed me a favour.
But now he's a doux and not a viceroy. His title became hereditary. Why did this happen?
His son was the count of Naissos, and while the strategos of Bononia was in my jail his son's county was stolen from him by another one of my strategoses, but apart from that nothing else has changed regarding that duchy.
