Which ones do you think are the most strategically important provinces, regardless of which GC?

I would say:

1. Gibraltar
2. Suez

I am not so sure about the third one but for Germany it would be Copenhagen and for US / Japan it would be Guam / Pearl Harbour

6 - Any province with a port to Med, is strategically important.

In real life Istanbul has been historically strategically important. In DD (or real life for that matter) its lost its importance. The only reason to take any of turkey is as a staging post to grab some oil rich provinces, but you don't really need istanbul to do that.

I agree that Gibraltar and Suez are vital, but then again I always play the war in Europe and the Med is a useful place to hold.

Alexandria is a key one. It´s a bottleneck and the british usually build strong landforts there. If you take it, a great step is taken towards controlling the Med and towards further expansion in Africa.

blah blah. I think the ones above are of very limited strategic importance.

The only one that matters is Gibraltar - as the owner controls the fate of the war. Own it as Germany, you will most likely win the war.

To a limited extent, copenhagen, as a german owner means that Germany has a safe place to hide their navy as needed.

The others are nice provinces, which give limited tactical advantage, but Gibraltar controls the fate of the Med - and thus frees up Germany to concentrate 95% on the only threat that really matters - USSR.

Suez isn't as crucial, as losing this either means the Med has already been lost, or will be lost.

Istanbul isn't important, as who cares about the black sea. The only use is for a quicker land connection to the middle east.

Colon? Big or small Intestin , or da ya mean 'anus' directly (important passage in deed).

I'm amazed that you don't know what the province controlling the Panama Canal is called...and that you think he's talking about usually-unmentioned parts of human biology in a list of important Hoi2 provinces.

Dijon can be a vital province, because as germany you have to pass throught to capture Vichy...

There's no need to capture the province of Vichy. You can get the 25% needed for the French surrender much more easily by racing to the Atlantic and capturing undefended provinces, instead of fighting for heavily defended Dijon.

...but the most important is still Sardigna, who control it control in fact the mediteranean sea located in the middle, with airport and naval base planes based there will simply rules.

Sardinia is the most important province in HoI2? It's no more important to the Axis than Crete or Mallorca, and much less important to the Allies than Malta. There are lots of islands in the Mediterranean...Sardinia doesn't really stand out, unless you're the Allies trying to give air support to a Husky in northern Italy. (Saw that once in an MP game. Turned out to be decisive. It's the only time I've seen Sardinia be important.)

Peace love kiss kiss (ambassador G'Kar babylon 5)....

Anyway, it was humor, at 6 am I am not always as good as Marx (Groucho I mean, I find Harpo to be a little bit weak). I hope you noticed in fact the provinces I gived were all unimportant in 99% of the time (even Radom, if oyu mass your troops in prussia, no need to go there). It was humor, because in fact the importance of the province is purely relative, it simply depend of your strategy, for exemple with germany, as soon as you get european UK, mediteranean sea lost a bit of it's importance, because anyway UK does not have anymore the capacity to harm yo uanyway, and an attrition war in that sector is enought. OR if as france you decide to kick Italy, Sardigna is uttermost important to avoid Italy to strike you back in MArseilles... appart that Sardigna as Corse is a useless island.

hmm i would say

Gibraltar
Alexandria (if you control it you control the suez)
Colon

Baku and other high resource provinces dont feel quite as important ingame as they might have been in rl.

an interesting question would be what resource province do you think is the most strategically important ingame ?

I think Gibraltar is pretty important, as well as the rare material provinces previously mentioned.
