How about a simple yet I hope cool change of making Strategic Resources be stockpilable and more powerful
Because the IP of this game makes the normal economy into energy and minerals and the New consumer goods will be a upkeep for pops I would like to see Strategic Resources become more tradable and interesting for gameplay.
One easy way to do this is just to have them be stockpilable like in Hearts of Iron 2 and 3.
Maybe even build refineries to create a more powerful Version which you then can trade for energy/minerals to a empire that has it lacking. Or refineries that combine some ores into a new powerful Resource. It's maybe not wholly gamechanging but it would add some much needed depth to the economy of Stellaris and make the Strategic Resources more interactable rather than just a +1 Garanthium ore
gives 10% ship hull strenght it would work as +1 Garanthium ore gives daily Income of +1 and you need at least 10 to build a destroyer With 10% ship hull strenght buff. Or i.e 2000 stockpiled Lythuric gas
is enough to charge 20,000 Points of Shield strenght With +15% strenght. Or maybe even double the bonuses to make it more Worth the effort. This would also have a spill over effect of i.e way you could trade Resources to gain an advantage or even subsidize a empire With the Resources to help them gain an advantage in a war which would also make diplomacy more interesting. This would also not make it an obligation if you don't like to focus on economy but a nice buff for those who do.
