I once had an earl (ruler consort to the Countess Regnant of Laigin) launch an adventure for the Kingdom of Middle Francia. It never got off the ground because of alliance weirdness: I was allied to Middle Francia at the time so Earl Laigin was our enemy, but he raised his army in County Laigin where his wife was the ruler and co-leader of the adventure, so he apparently couldn't besiege her castle. But it was hostile territory due to my alliance, so he thought he could.
