Early in my Macedonian campaign last night, I had negotiable trade routes for both the Salt in Rome and Spices in Egyptian north africa. I would periodically send diplomats to negotiate a trade, but was not yet successful, though trades to both those places were definitely possible from Epririus and Sparta, I believe.

Recently, however, when I click the create trade route link from those provinces, the only thing that shows up is a greyed out Paeonia, no mention of the untraded goods elsewhere. (Even though I know I have open routes on 1-2 coastal provinces!)

The only things that I know that have changed are:

1) I annexed Crete, prior to this annexation I had "trade access" with them.
2) I was at war with Rhodes, though I settled. Not sure if I had trade access.
3) I am now at war with the Seceulids.

Any thoughts on why I can create trade routes to both Rome and Egypt now? The trade map still says there is 0/3 grain in Egypt and 0/3 salt in Rome. (Do these not get updated maybe if under the fog of war? I.e, maybe someone is already sending them everything I have to offer?)

It may be some enemy ships wandering around and messing up your trade route. My suspicion is that the game draws a line from the province you are trading from and the province you are trading to. If any province between the two trading provinces is occupied by enemy ships, the trade route will be canceled, or impossible to create.

That's what I was thinking -- there are a ton of enemies sailing around the eastern med right now. Can anyone confirm this is the case? And Enemy ships don't interupt existing routes, right?

The only other alternative explanation is that the 0/3 Spices info on the trade map is not accurate due to fog of war. For example, it might be now 2/3, and those to incoming trades are the only 2 things I have to offer.

Does anyone know how fog of war affects info on the trade map (if at all)?

(Edit: I suppose I could sail to Rome or Egypt to find out, but my navies are seriously pinned down right now.)
