wouldn't it be pretty easy to mod more surnames for generals, so this doesn't happen?

That's what I'm doing a steady project of--it's time consuming and I get sidetracked easily. I think I'll release it as a mod someday if I ever complete it.
Could you release what you've done so far and maybe give permission to others to make use of it?

All I've done is the Italians (I combined the North and South Italian culture names), because I was doing a campaign as them recently, and I don't even think I'm complete there.
But thanks for the German names, I'll add those.
It could be an open-mod. Everyone could contribute, no need for one to do all the work, just my 2 cents.

That Belgium is a mess, why the capital isn't even in the 'new' Belgium.
Poor France has also lost its Mediterranean coastline as well!
The problem is that you can't really lose your capital like you do in EU4 - so when the Flemish revolted, they didn't get Brussels.
It assumes that Belgium hasn't conquered part of north-east France, but the situation created there is the proposed partition of Belgium- Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels City State. Then there's all the French/Dutch/German splits, but they're bordergore so not going to even go there.
Wasn't there a guy who even posted a mod, used to create such 'weird' pics?
I'm almost certain that that exact picture has been in this thread before...
errr I downloaded HoD before AHD, uninstalled, reinstalled and got that... Plus I don't think I would like to change over 200+ things in the localisations file just to get a strange screenshot.
Not to create that flag mess. Messing up with flags needs a bit more determination, including deleting the flag cache (which btw ships with the game).
Yes, I've seen that exact same screenshot before.
I found it. This screenshot, or screenshots similar to it, seem to reappear occasionally.
And that's what happen when you mess up with localisations files while modding. (not mine actually, but it's worth posting I think).

Except that the flags are correct. It is the localisation that is messed up. You can also see that the USA and the Russian Empire are correct because those names are stored in a different loc file (in the second screenshot).
