That means that they must've aquired a port someplace, gone to war with Spain, defeated them and gotten an army with over to Florida using their navy, and then lost the port. :eek:

Diplo-vassalization is not a guarantee. Without the save file, I cannot reach a conclusion as to what is hampering the effort. It can be influenced by a number of things. Those things are listed in the FAQ. A number of the things listed as potentially affecting it by posters in your request for help thread were specifically eliminated as having any true effect through extensive testing.

One thing the thread didn't address was relative incomes. I see no mention of this in the thread. Netherlands often have an inordinately high income, thanks to their provinces, their domestic policy sliders, and so forth. So it may have been that their income was disproportionately high. Can't tell, of course. I am assuming you made a great number of attempts. :p

Should be noted that diplo-vassalization is acknowledged to be the hardest to accomplish, harder than diplo-annexation. Still, if you have a save file from that situation around, and email it to me, I'd be more than happy to see if I can figure out where it was going wrong.


One side note on this for readers: the game has one acknowledged "bug" in this area, a noted tendency to freeze the random number generator, so that it produces the same result time after time. You can see this best sometimes by trying to reload a game and retry an attempt to bribe good relations; the same increase in relations occurs time after time. When you suspect this is happening (a battle you reload and retry has exactly the same result, down to the number of casualties), turn the game off entirely and restart it. This should reset the RNG. Unfortunately, it also results in DoW's from the suddenly awakened AIs, as well as a bunch of your merchants getting kicked out of CoTs by those same suddenly awake AIs. :mad:

Before you get all frustrated with this problem, I should note that what I think is the limiting factor in this case (I'm not looking at the source code right now so as not to give away too much) was one that I believe is not mentioned in the FAQ (or else I missed it). You might want to do some testing with that save game if you get it. :)

I'm afraid i no longer have the savegame. I reformatted and lost the last save. The latest save game I have is from 1576, about a century beforehand.

I doubt it had to do with income. I had 6 or 7 CoTs to their 1 or 2 and had been the richest nation for decades with, from memory, about $300 per year coming in. They probably had a respectable $100 per year maybe.

The only plausible thing i could think of was the embargo.

Couple of pages ago I posted image where I had several hundred thousands of rebels in my realm caused by revolt events coming between few months. Balkans broke off my Empire, Mamluks got independence and few others broke off but I reconquered them. That caused my treasury of 4000 ducats to vanish in the air when I needed mercenaries quickly

I didnt knew a trade post could proclaim its independence! This Quebec popped up from a revolted trade post I forgotten for a century.

Their capital is in Rome, no?
The same thing happened to one of Poland's tradingposts in one of my games, Dahomey revolted from a tradingpost and when I searched for Dahomey in the box thing their capital was defaulted to rome :p

But I thought that this has been fixed in a patch :confused:
Maybe I am wrong...

Someone posted a massive Mughal Empire recently, well here's one that appeared in my most recent game. I think it's a shame none of the Western powers developed as well as the Mughals did, at least as far as that game went. :D

Bas St-Laurent

Hochelaga

Ottawa

Yes, a country can't be released or appear in TPs but capital could have moved because of revolted capital province (probably defection to France in this case).
