Tsk, tsk, tsk...

And Siberia is yours!Byzantine_Owns said:The mighty English army invading Russia!
I had left that army waiting close to the Russian border one winter and when the war started I remembered that I had that army and I started moving in to Russia with it. It was about 50 men back then. It actually survived some combat, which brought its numbers down to 8 men.
I thought noone would be thoughtless enough to not be the alliance leader while playing a superpower in the 17th century...Byzantine_Owns said:Ha ha, it almost was, and then my idiot alliance leader went and accepted a peace where I only got 3 siberian provinces... And two of them were trading posts.
By the way, my total income each year is already over 4000 ducats. Wow.
I'd have rather dishonored. And taught them a lesson of good manners just afterwards.Byzantine_Owns said:Well you were wrong. The alliance I am in has existed since the 15th century and it has never expired and nobody has ever dishonored it. Honestly, all I want is that those Spaniards would stop declaring war against half the world all the time. They never let the alliance expire.

I've seen big Vijayanagars before; what I haven't seen is Seminole declaring independence from Transylvania!Lord Finnish said:
Your own fault dude  Just dishonor and let them get their asses handed to them by the rest of the world. Then, strike at them.Byzantine_Owns said:It has been a tempting idea, but there always came up something else.
You know the events where you get casus bellis against Spain? I and my alliance was at war against half of Europe (who were Poland's vassals) back then. Nobody was able to win the war, and it all ended with my alliance getting 50 ducats to share. Yay. And I lost my chance to attack Spain...

Ok, for the last time.
The FAQ is quite thoroughly researched. Hours and hours went into it. I know, because I was there when it was being put together. And we went through some lengthy board discussions, and lots and lots of people tried things out.
And it is quite accurate. If you are unable to diplo-annex a country, then one of the factors listed is missing.
This is especially true if you cannot diplo-annex after 30 years of continuous vassalization. After that, the randomness simply goes away and if you can annex, you will annex.
So if you are not completing annexations, you are doing something wrong.
The usual suspects:
You are before the Edict of Tolerance, and you are Catholic and they are Protestant/Reformed, or vice-versa. Thus, you cannot have a royal marriage and are thus unable to diplo-annex. Wait until the Edict of Tolerance.
Your vassal is not at peace. It's stuck in a war with some nation three-quarters of the way across the map, and one or the other of the nations has managed to capture a province, so a white-peace isn't possible. The fix is simple: load up the game as your vassal and peace out the war by giving the opponent everything they could want.More practically, edit the save file to end the war with a white peace. These are cheating of course. If you don't like to cheat, well, you may have to wait a long while.
You lack a common border. This one trips up even the best players. The solution, fortunately, is simple. Take a province next to your vassal from whomever it is that is weakest.![]()
Again, I want to iterate: this game has been out since 2002. It's been played extensively by a very large number of players. There was a time when this board used to have so many new threads in a single day in the main forum for the game that you would scroll off the front page if someone didn't answer within 24 hours. The game's mechanics are quite well documented (we even had the help of the lead programmer, Johan Andersson, who in a couple of instances allowed forum members to hack the .exe to figure out what was going on; see the Battle System FAQ for an example). In almost all instances where someone documented what they thought was an error to one of the FAQs, persistent efforts to uncover the culprit yielded the unsurprising result that the FAQ was correct and there was a factor that the player wasn't taking into account.
If you ever have a result you think isn't what should be expected in a game, save the game, and post your question. Be patient, since the number of people who pop in here anymore on a regular basis is relatively small (they are all off playing EU3, the fools!  ). One of us will try to help, and, if need be, likely would be willing to have you transmit the save game so we can look at it and spot the problem.

and that's why they call us 'noobs', but thanks for the help, so stab has nothing to do with it then , huh?
Ok, I'm going to try and be tolerant here. Perhaps you don't realize how stupidly snarky this sounds.BurningEGO said:Oh and, I would like to inform you that we do not need RMs to perform DAs. I have DAed many times the Papal States, who cannot conduct RMs, without any problems. Perhaps you need to check the FAQ yourself, before making such commentaries, no?![]()
