It's because in MyMap Russia can get to China (and vice versa) much more easily. I think Moscow and Kamchatka are only ~20 provinces away from each other.

Actually, Russia is doing just fine in that game, it already swallowed the Hordes, Siberia and is in the process of expansion in the Central Asia.

As I was too busy with the constant wars as Byzantines, I have no idea how that happened. I'll have to check the game log and see if I can find out what exactly happened...

I think it was a result of a war, those two provinces have no fort, and Far Karelia is still a level 2 or 3 colony, so that makes them easy to capture.

I had a similar thing happen in my rebel game when Silesia declared independence but the army that had been besieging the province continued and in the end captured the province from Silesia despite not being in a war with them.

That's happened to me as Poland when I'm sieging Kustrin in a war against the Teutonic Order, and the event where Brandenburg buys Kustrin fires and I keep sieging it.
