Think of it as corporate style embezzlement. The steward as the head of an empire-wide pyramid scheme, and when the whole scheme collapsed and the emperor's treasury had to bail the pension funds of the imperial civil service out, that's when you got the event.

This position shown in my current game has held for well over a decade now. The Al-Murabits have destroyed Aquitaine (an independent Duchy) and occupied all of their provinces (and held them constantly) - bar one, Poitiers. That province is oddly enough cut off from Islamic lands and sea. So we have a utter stalemate, since the Al-Murabits seem reluctant to DoW a county in the way, and Aquitaine seems reluctant to give any sort of peace. An unintended side-effect of the Shiekdom of Praha fix, perhaps?

Two quick questions ---

First, how do you take a screenshot? I've misplaced my manual, and I used to know how to do this but I've forgotten.

Second, would it be considered unusual for the Kingdom of Poland to have captured and held Byzantion for 75 years? It cracks me up everytime I look at the Bosporous in my current game and see a big dark green blob extending down the coastline of the Black Sea. That's the picture I wanted to post...if it's not unusual I won't bother.

I've seen plenty of dead bishops and popes in these threads - but dead bishops with dead followers? This is getting scary. Notice how they only appear in the assasination menu, not in the dead bishops court. Court of the damned indeed...

Why would you want to kill someone who has already passed away ? What is dead can never die. The bishopric of Silves is haunted, maybe the pope should do some exorcism to destroy the ghosts .

Am I the only one that often gets the event that a bastard declares himself a legitiate heir? .. only that the bastard is dead.. and always happens not when my king is alive but when the successor already took in. So the dead bastard declares himself legitemate heir to my already dead king

That's intentional if he had any sons, since they would then show up in your line of succession. If their ancestor remains a bastard, they can never inherit.

...Well, I saw a 48 martial once, but it involved two brilliant strategist prodigies with moderately obnoxious stats and lots and lots of traits.

Fortunately, +martial traits tend to screw up vassal loyalty, so I played ring around the rosie with a 30k+ uberstack until his kingdom (Poland-Germany-Bohemia-Lotharingia-Denmark, for those playing along at home) rose up against him.
