Greetings!

Playing austria in GC with latest beta (07.02. "vanilla") i encountered some pretty strange things after reloading a savegame:

At January 1st, 1429 (i'm used to save each time before changing domestic policies),

- royal marriage with Bohemia is reestablished, mutual relations are set back to +150

- bavarian army in Ansbach is 19K insted of 9K large

- wurttembergs army (in Wurttemberg) is 9K instead of 19K

- Croatia is at war with Venice and has an army of 14k sitting in Istria (without military access), which is an austrian province since approxmiately 1425!

Well, Bohemia broke the aforementioned RM in early 1419 due to becoming hussite and should still be hussite (or, in gameterms, lutheran)! Our mutual relations before saving were at about +90. Bavaria and Wurttemberg are both my trusted allies and vassals und are not at war (nor were they at war any time during the last decade). Before i saved, Croatia and Venice were NOT at war with each other and croatian troops were not on vacation at the lovely austrian adria. ;)

To make things even a little bit more mysterious, reloading the (annual) 1429 autosave shows the situation, as it should be. So, there is no real harm done to my game, but i'm damn' sure, i (manually) saved the strange "Austria_January_1429" savegame correctly.

However, this savegame did overwrite a previous "Austria_January_1429" (1.07 vanilla without any Beta), may the latter in any way have "corrupted" it? But, even in the overwritten savegame, no RM between Austria and Bohemia took place, i have never encountered a game as Austria (and i encountered quite a few ;) ) were Bohemia changed back to "catholic" before the 1430ies.

Long story short: I have not been harmed by this incident in any way other than being a bit puzzled, but nevertheless, i humbly ask for enlightenment! :)

What does your history log say? It should record the date of the Royal Marriage with Bohemia, or a declaration of war between Venice and Croatia. Did all these things happen on January 1, 1429 or before that?

Bohemia should change to Catholicism in 1437. The only ways for it to be Catholic in 1429 are converting by itself (which I have never observed AI to do) or choose ahistorically in the Hussite event of 1419.

I have never seen something like that - from what you describe it seems as if you loaded a different game than you intended to do.

Well, i considered that before going public and making a fool of myself. ;)

But i didn't check the history log before, thanks for the tip! Now, here is another little mystery:

The "Austria_January_1429" history file indicates neither any DOW or fighting between Venice and Croatia since the mutual peace agreement ending their initial war of 1419 at March 20, 1422 ("Croatia accepted peace with Venice on the following terms : Venice pays 167$ in indemnities. "), nor Bohemia re-converting to catholic after going lutheran on August 17, 1419. It does record Bohemia breaking our RM at the same date (of course) but it does not indicate its re-establishment at any date!

Well, i did load it after briefly playing a different game (as England). You mean, i should avoid reloading savegames while playing a different country? Doing so never gave me any problems in almost two years of playing EU2. I feel a bit thunderclapped by suprise at this instant...

However, can reloading a savegame while already being ingame "corrupt" or "destroy" the savegame "forever", as mine seems to be?

Yes. Info from the original game can leak over into the new game, as it seems memory is not fully cleared by that process.

Ah, i guess, that is the reason, why you can't at all load a savegame via the options-menu in Victoria, isn't it?

Thank you all for enlighening me, i will entirely refrain from reloading savegames while being in-game in the future. :)
