So after I paid $44 CDN to Steam for a highly anticipated copy of Stellaris (long time CK2 fan here), I realized that I could probably get you guys more money if I got a refund and purchased it directly from paradoxplaza.

After doing some research and finding your pre-order confirmation that you do get more money from direct sales, I also discovered that you charge $52 CDN for direct purchases.

It seems strange that the price is higher after you cut out the middleman, and although I'd even consider paying a premium to support future Paradox development, a 20% premium seemed a little steep to me.

So just a suggestion, but you may want to look at markets such as ours that are heavily penalizing people who want to make purchases directly from your store.

And I'm totally willing to do that refund if you correct the situation before launch. ;-)

what do you mean with region locks? You can use all download servers as long as you buy a game from steam. In Norway Stellaris got a really odd price(270 NOK).
So you can play with anyone in the world. This is the way for all steam customers?

you want strange pricing? try buying anything in australia that isn't from australia. those poor bastards get an automatic $50 added on to many products due to a $50 foreign imports tax.

That would most likely be a mistake by Steam. The standard prizes on Steam and Paradoxplaza should be identical in each respective currency, and 52 CDN are roughly the standard 40 Euro.

But are the norwegian copies really sold for 270 NOK? I mean, like the 40 CDN thats just around 30 euro, and that for two rich countries. That can't really be correct.

Nah Norwegian prices are right. Aligns well with standard Scandinavian prices (for a lower priced game! which Stellaris is) from what I know (mostly familiar with Swedish ones). Only odd part is that Steam has specific Norwegian prices, in Sweden Steam's prices are the standard Euro ones and as such Steam is always more expensive than local retailers unless they have a sale.

Swedish retail prices gives you Nova for about the same as standard edition on Steam.

Steam has different prices based on your region. And you may not be able to play a game on Steam if you move to a country that doesn't belong to the region where you've bought it.
For instance, I live in Russia and Stellaris costs 700/900/1200 roubles (9.5/12/16 euro) here. If I move to a country that is not in the CIS region (say, Germany or Sweden), and log in to Steam from there (with a German or Swedish IP address), all my games would be locked.

yeah steam had to clamp down on that. too many people were setting their computers to russian region and then buying games based on the value of the ruble, which is damn near the Reichmark during the hyperinflation period at this point.

lol... love the direction this thread went in. So if I understand correctly, the Norwegians are going to buy us all copies of Stellaris using their North Sea oil money??

And thanks for the warning @SobakenKusaken, thanks to @Oscot I was about to buy a ton of new Steam games after setting my VPN to Rupees. :-D

Are they all locked? My impression was that it depended on the publisher, whether they chose to impose regional locks or not. It seems like Paradox doesn't, which is great for me because I move around and don't want to rely on VPN.

Steam locks games, not publishers.

Russian games are locked for Russia and CIS, which are in summary, USSR land area minus Baltic countries
