As far back as I can remember, I've been noticing oddities with the cost to send merchants to various CoTs. Does anyone understand the dynamics of this? I know that CoTs on other continents are supposed to be more expensive, and CoTs that you control are supposed to be cheaper than otherwise. Yet I've seen many exceptions to this.

For example:

CoTs in Japan always seem to be cheap.

When playing as Songhai (in 1.05), I captured the Ivoria CoT. The cost of sending merchants there rose dramatically. It did go down slightly after the provinces it covers expanded to include my capital, but remains much higher than Alexandria.

A similar thing happened playing as Jodhpur (in 1.04). I captured the Delhi CoT and the cost went from being the best for any CoT I could see to being significantly worse than that for Isfahan, Samarkand, and Mascate.

Has anyone else been seeing stuff like this? I know there have been bug reports that the Ivoria CoT is more expensive than it should be, but nothing about the cost for it increasing if you capture it.

As Oman, the cost of sending a merchant to Kansai was about 6 ducats. Sending the same guy to Omanese Zanzibar would cost nearly 30 ducats.

It's quite clear that there is a bug with Kansai, since there isn't any logical reason for the low costs.

The natural Japanese tendency for free trade? :p

your setting on your FreeTrade Mercabtilism DP slider has a HUGE effect on the cost to send a merchant.
Eg. At nuetral setting say it costs 20 to send a merchant.
that means at Setting 0 it costs 30.
and at setting 10 it costs 10.
A difference of 20 ducats. This is before any modifiers.

Yes, but this effects, or should effect, all CoTs in the same way. What I don't get is why some CoTs cost more (or less) than other CoTs on the same continent, and why sometimes owning a CoT actually increasesthe cost of sending merchants there. If nothing else, you would expect that CoTs that you own, on the same continent as you, would be cheaper than anything else. Yet this is often not the case.
