In my game as Muscovy, Poland and Lithuania have been in a personal union for about 30 years. Poland is naturally the dominant partner. Now, obviously as Muscovy, the Commonwealth forming would be bad. I'd like to liberate my Orthodox, Slavic brothers eventually. Now, neither country have any rebels to support. Is there anything else I can do to actively end it?

Yes. Bring down Poland's Prestige below 0. Possibly below -50. If the king dies with negative prestige, the PU ends. The same applies to Castille/Aragon, Austria-Bohemia/Hungary. Etc. The best way to do is is to declare war that puts great emphasis on prestige gain/loss (religious etc.).

Whether you're fighting them as one country, as two countries in personal union, or two countries allied to each other is all the same
Just attack them and release polotsk and smolensk and follow up by capturing a Ukraine province, releasing as vassal, and follow up again by returning cores to Ukraine

In order to form the commonwealth they need Danzig and Marienburg.

Usually I take one Byelorussian, one ukrainian and one Russia province, release Polotsk, Smolensk and Ukraine from it respectively and then use the Religious CB to regularly declare war for a mix of Returning Cores and giving provinces of their respective cultures to those vassals. You only need to keep an isolated bordering province to be able to repeat that.

To be honest, you could probably just sit and wait until the PU between Poland and Lithuania crashes and burns. In all of my 150 hours of playing EUIV, I have never seen the Commonwealth form regardless of whether I was playing in Eastern Europe or the Africa.

You get permaclaims and its your culture and religion so best to take yourself, at worst wait for commonwealth to form then core reconquest with vassal Lithuania, like how giga burgundy gives best core reconquest

My usual way of dealing with Commonwealth is to declare a war, take a few provinces I can release vassals from (only one for each vassal so the truce is short) then Reconquest CB until the cows come home. Make sure to take minimum one province you can release a new vassal from in each Reconquest war, and as much money as you can to keep Poland down. This will give you some, uh, "allies", who tend to be in otherwise short supply as Muscovy, and weaken the PLC repeatedly while strengthening you.

Your greatest strength in these wars is the fact that you can have one big army, while Poland/Lithuania tends to have several smaller ones. Fight defensively at first if you don't have an immense advantage, use the winter, and push only when Pol/Lit are sat at 0 MP, or when you're confident in your army advantage.

Man, I tried that. 15k + 15k players and 100k Muscovy AI couldn't take on Poland. But to be fair, the Muscovy AI is chronically incompetent.

While Poland was busy screwing my soldiers in Bulgaria, Muscovy just sat on the border after THEY called us into the war. They decided to peace out AFTER our (not muscovy) armies were destroyed.

On another note, Muscovy:
Later, me and player2 invaded Mamluks. Once again, the AI just sat on the border and for some reason, ignored objectives and went to the other side and left tiny armies in Constantinople to get stackwiped by Mamluks.

Back to Poland:
These guys are insane, they deleted half of Hungary, Screwed Prussia, Bohemia and Austria. The only way they could lose is if France (which formed their own nightmare Franco-British Commonwealth) attacked them during Rev./Napoleonic Wars. I am basically counting on the idea of the two fighting and ruining eachother.

As Muscovy/Russia, Poland/Commonwealth is a reliable ally that I usually use during the first 50 years or so of the game in wars against:

  1. Denmark (transfer Norway, then Sweden in consecutive wars using 1st Age ability)
  2. Livonian Order/Riga and whatever allies they have
  3. Various Hordes (GH/Kazan/Uzbek/Nogai/Crimea)
  4. Ottomans
I also try to ally Austria, curry favours and bring them into the first war against the Ottomans. Poland and Hungary usually fight at some stage, so be sure not to wait too long for this.

There's plenty of time afterwards to annul the alliance with Poland/Commonwealth and take their lands using your perma claims. But I recommend using them to help you in wars for a bit before you attack them. They are one of the few early powers who will be willing to join almost all of your wars. Get a lot bigger than PLU/Commonwealth, then take them on.

By the time you have the Scandinavians as your vassals and have won the first war against the Ottomans and released Byzantium and Bulgaria as your vassals, you won't need strictly need allies for future wars (they still help to reduce AE though).

In our save, Ottomans were taken out of Anatolia and Europe completely by Albania (yes, you heard that right, 2 province Albania * with the help of Serbia) and later down the line, Mamluks. Hordes were crushed by Muscovy on their own. Can't care much for what goes on with Livonia and Denmark. Commonwealth has been a huge pain. Poking us every 10-15 years, generally blobbing out too much. France is also terrifying because they have an army of 100k that survived the Catholic Protestant war and ALSO a British puppet with 100k troops. If Poland and France unite, its basically the plague

You mean if the relations are under 0? If Lithuania hates Poland in terms of relations, the union will break. In my games, they just break off like that for no reason.
