Having only recently gone through the learning curve of HOI, the one thing that was quickly brought home to me was the weak AI of HOI. I always play new games on the hardest settings, so I can judge how good/bad/indifferent the AI is. After starting my first game, it wasn't long before I was looking up the options menu, to make sure I had ticked the hardest settings, such was the "ease" in which I was finding the AI.

It was then I started looking at C.O.R.E & Stony Road for a bit more of a challenge. Up to now I hadn't found a thread which users "road test" one against the other. I've looked at both and saw the merits in each of these mods, but this thread showing the pro/con's has helped me no end. Thanks for the thread, as now I have a better idea on which Mod to insert into my game.

And yes a combination Mod with the best of both, would be an ideal although unlikey addition.

From Copernicus
I have to say it again - there is no such thing like historically correct mod, only historically correct players. If you play Germany, SR, CORE or whatever, you can attack Yugoslavia instead Poland. Or event Italy. Why not? Because you want to recreate historical line of events. Of cousre, you want to improve it too - win battle of Moscow, conquer UK and USA... but generally, you want to "play historically". That's why game looks like "historically correct"."

That is not entirely correct. Germany did not invade Yugoslavia before taking Slovakia or Poland because of real political issues. The same way you are able to take Hungary or Romania but political and strategic reason should make you think not to do it as it happened in the WWII. And actually it can be fairly done in HOI as well. Is just a matter of creating the right events rewarding or punishing you depending on your decisions but with a real historical background. A clear example would be Extro's dissent events.

From Copernicus
"I would be in heaven, if all the playability in SR was possible to do with tweaking AI's only. :D What about events giving units and techs for free, huge bonuses to the productivity, extreme rise of warentry? Ai's in HoI are hopeless - even with max tweaking, AI's alone could not create enough challenge for most of the players."

Second that one :D

From Copernicus
"Again, I love to play SR - but as a "power player", not for "history fun""

Even though I stated already why I strongly disagree with this judgment it is still your opinion and hopefully will change in the future, at least when playing Germany :)
you just need to be abit more patient with Nighty.

Yes, this kind of events is also needed in CORE. Just keep in mind, that CORE is community work - all the people got different goals, and all want to improve playability of their favourite countries first - that's why CORE lacks events oriented on "general playability" or balance. What would be changed in the next release, that's for sure. :)

I really don't understand why lot's of people find my statement that SR and CORE are different as a criticism of SR. I should probably fall on my knees and dust my head and crawl all the way to Dusseldorf to recieve a absolution. :D ;)

Sorry Copernicus I guess I should have posted what I was referring too, which I did not. Now I did:D
As you can see you are clearly saying SRW is not historically fun for you. This was what I was answering. Anyway as I said is your opinion which is totally acceptable and 100% valid. If you would still like to crawl until Düsseldorf it will be quite funny anyway, maybe you could write an AAR about it .:D
