Hi, I recently downloaded the EU3 demo, as i have been planning to pick up the full game for some time. On playing the demo though I have discovered that the whole game lags quite strongly even in the main menu, with the game being almost a full 20 seconds behind my mouse movements. My system specs are as follows

HP Pavilion
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
1024MB RAM
DirectX 9.0
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Windows XP

I am wondering if there is a solution to my problem and also, if this issue would occur for me in the retail version as well.

welcome to the forum.

and your problem might be the 5200 graphics card. does it support Pixelshader 2.0?

Thanks for the answers but I'm still a bit confused by this. I did not consider EU3 a graphically taxing game. How is my system can run things like Call of Duty and battlefield fine, and not this? Also is there nay solution for me as far as the demo goes beyond getting a new card. Finally will this problem be present for me on the retail version, or can I at least expect a patch to fix it very quickly?

Anyone that has a Geforce FX5000 series card suffers this lag issue. AFAIK this is not a game code issue, it can't be fixed in a patch. Only thing you can do is buy a new one. FX5200 supports pixel shader 2.0 but only just, so you run the game, but you get terrible performance.

As to the retail version, I would guess it would have the same performance as the demo, since as I said, this isn't a bug, or a coding problem, it's a hardware problem. So you'd best buy a new card. There are several cards that would play the game just fine in the 100$ -> 150$ range.

The problem comes when your game crashes entirely and you have an AGP motherboard. So no fancy PCI-Express card for me without a new motherboard and buying a now-outdated AGP card does not seem very smart either :(.

EDIT: BTW, They could fix it in code to work better with less-developed pixel shader abilities on the card. The problem is this might be an extensive solution. Bear in mind that the things hardware do can be done by software, although it is usually a lot slower and more difficult to implement for the game creator.

I fixed my troubles (as far as I can see) but I own an FX5700 card. Still, you might want to try this link.
