So it says that a province with stone gets something like +10% on defence. How does that work? Is it applied when someone is assaulting the provinces fortress?

I think the only effect is, that a siege on this province will take longer. I guess it's about double the time, when the province has stone or a lvl 1 fortress and trible the time with stone and the fortress.

stone does not interact with troups. It's only about provinces.
cataphracts is a bonus for a unittype. (like a lot other ideas and inventions give bonus to offensive and defensiv and morale and disciplin)
