Stolen Rudders?

Does this work?

Playing as Denmark, I found myself in war with Portugal.

I stole their rudders twice before 1500.
Both times I did not notice any extra provinces showing up.

When peace was made, I attempted to trade maps, and they knew 26 more provinces than I did.

Whats up?

You do not gain all their maps with stolen rudders - just a few each time if you are lucky.

In previous versions of EUII, you gained all their knowledge.

you gain knowledge of teritories adjacent to yours, IIRC. This could be why you don't seem to notice any difference. Also, from stealing rudders i think you can gain knowledge of a prov they know of but is not unknown to you, so there is a chance your known provs or seazones remain the same.

This comes from empirical deductions. Maybe someone knows more about this, but in my games, i do not put a lot of hopes in map knowledge from stealing rudders. Rather conquer the capital, for extensive maps(all their known.)

Also: when you trade maps via diplomacy with a country, they tell you of their known COLONISED provinces. You do NOT gain knowledge of new empty provinces, ready for your colonists. You must complete a siege of the capital for it.

What patch do you have applied? "Rudders" was corrected to "rutters" long ago.
