Hey guys. I just found all these wonderful games made by Paradox a few months ago. I have purchased Hearts of Iron 3, EU3 and EU:Rome. I like them all but I found EU: Rome the funnest because of the focus on chractars. Someone over in those forums say that Rome is very similar to CK. So I just came over to see if people still played CK at all. I know it is a bit old, but when it comes to these games it doesnt seem to matter.

Thanks!!! :)

Of course it is!

I only got CK in October and I now own EU3, HoI2 and 3 and Vicki and CK is by far my favourite. It is kinda different from the other games and is more about characters than countries but I find it utterly fantastic. One of the things I enjoy most (aside from using espionage to secure big inheritances) is to take a small Duke or a Count and build up an Empire from scratch. Feudalism can be annoying but its very fun. ;)

Buy it!

Sounds like I will be getting it. My wife is going to kill me when she sees how many Paradox games I bought this month! :)

So how hard to learn is it compared to EU3 or EU:Rome? Is it more complex?

edit: So i purchased Complete off gamergate. Unlike other Paradox titles it is 2 different downloads. Do I just install CK then Deus Vault? Are there any patches?

Oh, goodness, and just how annoying it can be. In the last couple of days, I've once again reached the stage in CK where I usually go, "aww, forget this!", followed by quitting the game and uninstalling it in anger (but, importantly, I always re-install it sooner or later - it's a love-hate relationships I've got with this game).

I really gotta find a few minutes at some point to post my personal rant about excommunication and duress...

Whenever my country gets too big and I get cluster f*cked by angry vassals I tend to give away all my title but one and then start again.

If you have bought Rome for the characters and intrigue there is no way around CK.

Characters and their interactions often feel more natural to me in CK than in Rome. It's probably the fact that you play the dynasty instead of the country.

Whenever my country gets too big and I get cluster f*cked by angry vassals I tend to give away all my title but one and then start again.
But see, that's the thing - my vassals aren't threatening, they're merely extremely tedious. Having to face a randomly-selected dutchy every six months is boring. I keep on crushing them. Most of the time, I only re-vassalise them, while renouncing claims on their titles, so my reputation is pristine. But I'm still excommunicated, and I'm still under realm duress, so my dukes just keep on getting the "rebellious" trait.

Knowing that I'm stuck with this for the next thirty years because it didn't occur to the developers that an excommunicated ruler should have an active way of seeking to be de-excommunicated - that's the real problem.

I got excommunicated by William the Conqueror in my latest game. My crime? Being an independent Welsh lord bordering England.

It lasted 16 years, had to fight off loads off aggressors, including England, twice, even though I vassalised myself to them. Fun times.

I did try sending fosterlings (not that rich to outright bribe them) to the Pope and the PC at various times, but I don't think the game takes that into account, or that the AI ever revokes excommunication from anyone but itself.

Oh Yeaah! Still, the best character-based (I like to think of it as generational historical rpg) strategy game to date and probably the only one (Rome's character system was much too watered down compared to CK). And many list it as their favourite Paradox game for a reason :) . SO by all means get it NOW!
