So I purchased CiM2 on release day and like quite a few other people was a little disappointed at the bugs the initial release had. I ended up putting the game down and not touching it until now as I didn't want to ruin my experience of the original CiM.
Now, 6 months and numerous patches later, I thought I'd give it another go, thinking that surely the bugs would have been fixed, however I have to say that I am still massively disappointed with the game and the bugs that still remain....

First off I'm finding it pretty much impossible to make any money. Even when checking the map when I first start to see where the Blue Collar workers live and work, and then building a line between those 2 locations, I find that no one uses my service, my buses just go round and round, maybe carrying one passenger at a time. My ticket prices are white so that not the issue, and my routes are reasonably short, so service level is not the issue. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to make a profitable line

Secondly, I have just been given a task to build a line between Detached House and Hypermarket.... so off I go building a tram track as its quite a long route to get across the 2 bridges, building stops in the right places including one next to the detached house and one next to the hypermarket. I check both buildings to make sure they are covered by the line, buy some trams and let them do their thing, but the task still says 0% complete, my trams are going round and they are actually quite busy, but the hypermarket has a value of 0 for homes, residents, workplaces and workers. The worst thing is that I can't even take a screenshot and share it on the forum for people to see as pressing 'fn + Print Scr' on my keyboard prints whatever window I have open in the background (Steam, Firefox etc.), and the in game screenshot (F8) doesn't include the building information pop-up windows.

Come on Paradox, I know you guys read these forums and I don't like to post negative things when I know you work so hard and generally listen to our feedback, but this is ridiculous. I just spent another $10 today on the trains and buses add-ons and still don't feel I am able to play the game properly. It really just feels like I've thrown $10 in the bin. It's even more frustrating because I really think this game has so much potential and looks absolutely stunning, but is ruined by these annoying little bugs that keep popping up that still haven't been fixed despite multiple patches from yourselves :(

Uh...about making money, I actually find it very easy. I think the problem is that the developer tutorial was misleading by showing the player how to build a line between an industrial zone and some houses, which is actually a terrible idea. If you make a line through mixed use areas (yellow or purple areas), they are almost gauranteed profitable. This is a hard game that takes a lot of time to get used to, so don't worry! :)

Secondly, the tasks do take some time to register, because it was designed so that the player can't just plop a line down, get the money, and then delete the line. "Print screen" only works if you're in window mode (as for all games), and you can use the steam screenshot key (I believe it's F12) for it to include the UI.

Building lines that just connect some industrial area with a residential one is a bad idea, especially if the said residential area is a suburb. IRL that's what many Soviet (and some Soviet-inspired) mass transit systems were about, and that partially explains why they are in freefall since the early 90s.
I suck at the game, but after my ~120 or so hours put in it, I've developed a profitable strategy: build first a mid-to-high capacity (preferably tram, but if you have the Trekking Trolleys DLC some high capacity trolleybus will do too) route from the downtown to the residential outskirts, and only then start adding low-capacity feeder routes to connect it to the suburbs, industrial zones, and so on. Even if some of these feeders are turning with a net loss, you will stay out of the red.
As for the sidequests, they seem to be generated at random, and most of the routes they require you to build make no real sense, so I just don't bother with them. By the time I have free money on hand to accomplish these tasks, the rewards they propose don't really matter.

Connect industrial areas at the beginning is a bad idea as the others already stated.
For screenshots press F12, Steam will take the screenshot, or use a programs like Fraps.

CiM 2 at the beginning is hard as CiM 1. You only get enough passengers when you have a network effect. Build small and cheap lines, no trams, and cover a big area with them. After that you can start upgrading to trams, metros etc.

Same as CiM 1, ignore random requests or use them only to get the money. They can actually drive you to bankruptcy.

i too always start with a big tram line on the nicest street that runs through city center and other areas, then connect some bus lines to the tram line to cover other areas. then i connect another big tram line, then buses, then another tram, then buses ;) and so on, and at a certain time the covered area gets to big just for trams and buses, then i build my first metro.
that always worked for me, in cim1 and and2, and i already played a lot of maps..

and i would recommend just to switch the random requests off, since they are useless in my opinion..

I do start taking 200'000 loan (5 week repay), and build 2 metros in a cross through major city center.

than I do start to feed thise two metros with buslines as money comes in. After 2-3 weeks I stop worrieing about money.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm going to give it another go today to see if I can get anywhere. I don't just want to put it down as I think it really does have the potential to be the best game of this type :)

Been playing a bit more this morning and have found a way to make some cash, however the problem I mentioned in my original post about the hypermarket having a value of 0 for homes, residents, workplaces and workers seems to be echoed across all my leisure facilities. Is this a bug or is there something that needs to be done to populate this building type. Screenshot attached :)

The leisure facilities do have value 0 in all respects, but a lot of Cims travel to them in their leisure time, even though it's not reflected in the numbers. The same is with some of the landmarks.

Woohoo another bug, check it out. My tram is just sitting there, hanging out at a junction, holding up 2 of my lines, while 3 people perform what looks like the fkn raindance in front of it.....Nice one Paradox!

2013-09-22_00002.jpg

I have tried deleting and rebuilding that part of the line, selling the tram (another one just comes along and sits there in its place). I have also tried deleting and recreating the line!

Could you please make a bug report to the tech support forum with the information described in this post: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-to-best-report-technical-issues-and-get-help!

Thanks so much is advance!

Leisure facilities don't have people living in it or working. So no workers, residents, homes or workplaces. The game don't give you the number of visitors / customers of each building. Its not a bug. Leisure facilities have visitors / customers. Thats all.

Simply send the first tram in front of the rain-dancing-people to the depot. That solves the issue. And report the bug in the tech forum :eek:o

btw, the best way to take a screenshot is first to take the game off "full-screen" mode by unchecking "full-screen" in the "Settings" menu of the game and then alt-tab or press the window flag key on the keyboard to go to Window and launch an application called "Snipping Tool". Just use the mouse to drag over the area that you want to capture and release the mouse key and the screenshot is created.

I am very disapointed that after even 6 months after the initial release, I still can't hide overground road in underground level, and the annoying grid.

At lease that should be an option, and I don't think it will be difficult, as a programmer of experience, I believe.

That just stop me from making underground trains, because that's not so beautiful as CIM

with CIM1 I can directly start with borrow and Tram and very soon I will have a metro network that earn much.

It's not logical, in real life, public transport doesn't earn money, they cost certain public tax

Yes, I do the same thing and end up having a massive network... and it costs my passengers loads of money to buy a commuter-card for the entire system, or any ticket whatever the kind. We don't need subsidies because there is no policies which says that everyone should be able to travel on the system (gvnmt paying for ticket subsidies), there isn't any major maintenance or replacements. Basically, we have higher ticket prices than usual, and no passengers seem to care, and we don't have as many expenses.

Anyway, it's dead easy to earn money in CiM2, and the "punishment" for borrowing is minimal. Tend to borrow up everything I need until the system is fully built without going bankrupt due to massive debts many times above the estimated value of the company.

And yes, they should really fix the underground view. Otherwise the game is great.
