Hmm, I followed these steps, and the mod loads fine now:

- changed building_cost to gold_cost
- added new values to defines.lua
- added new values to opinion_modifiers
- removed graphical_culture_type from special troops
- added tribal to static_modifiers
- added in_hiding and winter_soldier to traits
- added 'seasons = "seasons.txt"' to default.map
- changed those bookmark names
- added buildings\tribal.txt
- added climate.txt

It crashes when I click on single player though, but multiplayer works fine.

Any ideas? I strongly suspect it's because of the new start-menu with the eras thing, which I haven't edited, besides using the vanilla bookmarks folder and just changing the date and description for the Fate of England bookmark...

Do you added seasons.txt in the map folder?

I actually did :p Just haven't committed that change yet.

It's definitely got something to do with the era menu, however - I can host a game in MP and the mod runs fine (well, with a few minor issues that I need to look into of course).

Check for the start date for tech in the technology history files to be 769; LI was crashing right there as well with the start date set to 1066 instead of 769. The end date can apparently be set to whatever you want though.

Could you explain this a little more. I've made most of the changes suggested, but its still dying. In my logs/error I do get a "[technology.cpp:718]: Missing Tech seed values:"

I don't make use of the history/technology files. I did modify some technology values in defines.lua.

You'll always get the Missing Tech seed values line in error.log. It will be followed by either a list of de jure duchies that aren't listed in history/technology, or "None".

After making all the changes listed I still can't get my mod past the final stage of initial loading

I have the same problem. The game crushes at the last second of the initial loading.

As long as you set your mod to override the history/technology part, you can at least get to the start-menu without crashing, so that file it turns out is not critical.

I have the same problem. The game crushes at the last second of the initial loading.

I suspect an /interface folder problem.

I've seen the same thing with the Middle-Earth mod where the steps listed didn't work, but once I removed the /gfx and /interface folder things worked fine.

Same with the Warhammer mod. After the changes were done, it would load up, but crash once trying to start a game the very last second after it finished loading a character.

I had to go through the /interface folder with winmerge and look at all the changes between our files and Charlemagne. In that case, there were only 8 files in /interface that weren't portrait related, so it wasn't so bad. For other mods however that have done heavy interface graphical editing, it may be a much longer process trying to determine which files need to be updated.

A bit about eras, it's possible to rename your bookmarks to those that are tied to corresponding era (first two eras are locked behind DLC requirements), the first 6 chars in the bookmark will be those who are show in era menu.

It's also possible to get rid of unnecessary eras by moving them outside the screen. To do so in frontend.gui starting at line 115 replace every position with coordinates outside the screen (except the one in windowType, it's needed to have era's picture slide properly to left side when you click on it) for the era you don't want. Example to remove 1st era:

I'm getting a very stubborn crash with the MEP mod.

I did all the steps, and it loads to right before the start menu.

Fine, the problem is either in /interface or /gfx.

But even after removing those, and even after removing most of the custom map stuff, it still crashes when i click on a character and select play, right after it is done adapting history. Basically right before the game is supposed to start up, something causes it to crash.

If it's not /interface /gfx or /map related... any ideas?

OK, I'm unfortunately gonna have to give up for today on trying to get the MEP mod patch-compatible after several hours of trying.

I know Redit is also working hard on it, but I at least have reached an impasse for now.

I've already heavily modified the mod folder removing many of the files which I think are problematic and done all the steps listed on the first post here on this thread, but it still crashes right after the "adapting history" part when you have selected a character and pressed play. Something is preventing the game-screen from opening I think, but it does not appear to be in either the /interface or /gfx folder, as even removing those two entirely the mod still crashes right before one enters the game.

If any genius modders want a technical challenge, please take a look and help us out.

If you can get into the game, let me know what the issue is, and I'll start re-adding many of the files I removed.

Also, if the game crashes before you even reach the start menu, please also post here. Oddly enough, I and LDRevolution can get to the start menu, but Redit and Chris93 both crash before that even though we're using the exact same version.

Any help is appreciated :)

Have you gone into the store from the game screen, and made sure that your DLCs were re-registered? (Just have to go into the store, exit, and restart the game.) This has to be done every time there's a new major patch.

Yes, I also revalidated through Steam. Of course this is for my mod, without it the game runs just fine, but I don't think I've modified any file that would do this. Some rulers have a "You are not allowed to play Theocracies!" message.

So, CotC's historical wars have stopped working. The CBs still work, I can declare the wars when I load up as the attacker, but the wars aren't there when you start the game anymore. Anyone have any idea what's up with this?
