Okay so the firing squad ability for Stephanie St Clair is so broken and bad that I assume this has to be glitched. I have played as this boss for about a week now (way too many hours per day lol) so here is a list of MAJOR game changing issues when using St Clair boss with the Firing squad ability:
1.) Firing squad cannot be used when St Clair is behind cover, and the enemy is behind cover, EVEN if her target is within a clear line of sight of you AND your allies, won’t work because of the cover.. Often times simply having your boss behind cover will not let you use the firing squad ability.
I assume it doesn’t work behind cover because of the “pointing the finger” animation she does.
This could be fixed by simply having her move out of cover, do the “pointing finger animation” and then having her move back behind cover. Or at least have it cost only 1 AP, costing 2 AP makes no sense (unusable) if it doesn’t work behind cover. Plus it has 4 round cool down in addition to it not working behind cover.
If firing requires your allies to “peek first, then shoot” due to the cover, then the firing squad ability simply won’t work. Very frustrating.
2.) Allies who are behind cover will NOT fire at other targets (allies within range of the firing squad ability) even if the targets are in shooting range. Just simply having teammates in in cover prevents the firing squad ability from working. I assume this is because they must “peek first” before firing, which the boss ability Firing squad doesn’t trigger that response. Thus it doesn’t work.
Any movement that requires them to peek around cover before firing will not work.
Even if your teammates are out in the open, but the enemies are behind cover, it will not work. It just doesn’t register when the enemies are behind cover. So the target has to be literally standing still, in the open, and have all allies standing out in the open also. That cannot be right as it makes the ability nearly impossible to use indoors...
Everyone is constantly behind cover in this game, even when outdoors often times, so how can this boss ability not work properly when people are behind cover? It doesn’t matter if your team has 100% chance of shooting enemy behind cover, the firing squad ability won’t let your teammates shoot those behind cover, no matter the odds.
A simple fix would be to simply allow it to work properly behind cover. Your boss and teammates should be able to “peek” around the corner to fire at targets behind cover, unless the target is blocked of course. The game should be able to auto detect this, similar to overwatch.
It seems like the coding for this boss ability is to blame.
3.) The range/radius of the firing squad ability (green circle) is completely impractical in every way, it literally is kinda useless as your team is constantly out of range. It needs to be 2.5 to 3x larger radius (if not more) for it work properly in the game. Your teammates will often AUTOMATICALLY move out of range of the firing squad ability, during the pre battle portion where everyone takes cover. That alone shows the abilities radius is simply way too small. I mean teammates will automatically move out of range, pre combat while taking cover, thus making half or more of your team now suddenly out of range - before the battle even begins. Also as stated above moving behind cover will make the ability not work, and that’s something your team automatically does pre battle...
I have screen shots and video clips I could upload, but these issues are very easy to test or recreate. I just assume because St Clair isn’t a popular boss at all that it hasn’t really been mentioned before, but I’ve been trying hard to play with her (50-75+ hours of gameplay as her) and ohhh it’s so frustrating her firing squad ability.
