My understanding is that the router provides numerous IP's and that players in a LAN via a one modem could play with others in a online game. I have done this with other games. Is this not possible with Paradox platforms?
When playing Paradox games, you are literally on a direct connect to the host of the game, he is operating as the "server" for all members, thus, you have to go thru all of hell of router setup, port forwarding and such.
Most other multiplayer games utilize their own servers at company cost. i.e. GameSpy, Microsoft's The Zone etc. The server in this case is acting as host, and controls the game. It communicates with your PC via standard Internet ports etc, thus port forwarding isnt required.
