I too am not sure I understood that also. I have a cable modem and a SMC router. My understanding is that the router provides numerous IP's and that players in a LAN via a one modem could play with others in a online game. I have done this with other games. Is this not possible with Paradox platforms?

When playing Paradox games, you are literally on a direct connect to the host of the game, he is operating as the "server" for all members, thus, you have to go thru all of hell of router setup, port forwarding and such.

Most other multiplayer games utilize their own servers at company cost. i.e. GameSpy, Microsoft's The Zone etc. The server in this case is acting as host, and controls the game. It communicates with your PC via standard Internet ports etc, thus port forwarding isnt required.

Hey, im not very familiar with computers... so im tryin to go through this step by step, and could anyone please tell me what ISP is ?

I=Internet

S=Service

P=Provider

Your ISP is the company you buy your internet connection from, i.e. AT&T, British Telecom etc.

You shouldn't have problems with Doomsday when you ran original HoI2 with no problems. You just need to allow Doomsday to pass through your firewall if you have one.

If you were able to play HoI2 but now can't play DD, there must be something else on your system/configuration that has changed.

My router only allows 20 ports to be forwarded, I can use ranges but I can only use 20 ports maximum. The ports listed in the first post are about 600 or more, anyway around that ?

I had similar problem. My router doesn't allow me to define port ranges, thus I had to specify them one-by-one. Doing so for 600 ports would kill me, so I forward just these:
47624, 2300, 2301, 2400, 2401, 28800, 29000

And it works well for me.

Have a little problem, my router sometimes forwards ports automatically, and I can play mp no problem....then at other times, it doesn't work and I even connect to V-net!!!

Anyone have any idea about automatic port forwarding?? Can it be turned off/on? and SHOULD it be turned off/on?

that sounds pretty cool, it should save you lots of time. But if its not functioning properly or you think you can do a better job then it does then by all means shut it off. There has to be a manual way to forward ports for your router so use that. Try googing for some documentation on it, there are a few websites out there with lots of tutorials about alot of routers.

I guess MP setup for EU 1 is the same as for other Paradox games. Try these.

Also need router help

Have been following your step-by-step, and have the same problem as Porkey. I have set up my router as per your suggestions but the two machines will not find any game the other is hosting. I am trying to play a two player game over a home network behind a DI-524 router. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Alright, I'm new to this game, (DoomsDay) do you have to do everything that is listed to play online?

what happened to just..inputing the IP..and connecting?

I'm no computer genius..so I have no idea how to do 85% of this crap.

Is there an easier way..now that 1.2 is out?
