i "Won" a pointless war declared by my ally in a federation

So i was minding my business enslaving primitives then suddenly my ally declared war on another federation.
Basically i made claims to a megastructure of an enemy that i invaded with mercenary fleets due to the fact that my enemies are much stronger than us and my ally is tumbling around and not being able to capture even atleast one station, meanwhile i captured 7 planets with 3 having starbases. Due to my ally being dumb, he did a white peace which made my sacrifice of 11k energy to get megastructures and strategic worlds useless and i also lost combined fleet of 3k in the year 2268. Comrades i ask your advice on what to do and if i should reset.

Thanks for the feedback.

There is no shame in resetting, you could probably do that. Although your loss isn't that bad, especially if your Federation is strong enough to prevent you from a defensive war until you have recovered.

Personally I would roleplay it, with that failure of a war causing diplomatic tension within the Federation and your empire demanding compensation - that is, you switch over to your ally using the console, have them send you some stuff, then switch back.

Alternatively, if you don't want to use the console, you might consider leaving the Federation due to that diplomatic tension and declare war on them or rejoin a few decades later

Thank you

My Federation is comprised only by me and an shitty ally, we banded together because 5 of our neighbors are our rivals and we are the only ones that do not have bad relations so i think it would be a mistake to betray your only ally if your neighbors are suddenly superior in firepower and economy due to a pointless war.

My game is in ironman mode but thanks for your input it really helps as i am still new to this game

My ally is like a politican having social anxiety or a shy gay teenager during a war

Considering you agreed to that offensive war you can hardly just blame your ally. If you were losing on your front and was the war leader I doubt you'd have second thoughts about how your ally is doing.

In general, you should wait until you control the Presidency to invest heavily in wars, that way you control the fleet and thus the overall progress of the war. Likewise, you should only invest heavily in wars you initiate and therefore control the ending of. If your ally initiated the war they do not care what you invested, they only care what they have gained or lost. This is as true in the real world as it is in Stellaris.

The power and use of your ally are as a frontier you can to some extent ignore to project force and strengthen defenses in other areas, and as a potential theater for your enemies to get distracted by.

well your claims dont go away, you could always get that territory next war. at least now you get 10 years of enforced truce were they can't attack you to rebuild fleet. focus on that, be ready for round two. :p

Play Genocidal or dont join Federation until AI is patched. it happened to me a week ago lost the game because AI thought it was great to start a war on someone while the contingency is showing up.

You can't depend on an AI ally if its fleets are weaker than those of the enemy they will never undock/stop patrol if that is the case. That is nothing new and has only gotten worse with every update since 2.0.

AI fleets also love to patrol and will only attack hostile fleets if the AI it starts losing systems in 2.2.

I remember that take point used to work at some point against superior enemies as long as the combined fleet strength was high enough(I used to fight FEs with AI allies). That was only for a short time though and only worked ok in warp only games or after all empires got the old jump drive.

also, remember that the enemy also lost fleets, and if he was stronger than you, it might be because of tech. i see wars as great way to steal tech, even on a white peace you get access to his star systems to get at the research projects to steel techs. you can steel you ally's techs if he did a crap job too, lol.

i have had situations where an advanced start AI picked a fight with me, i knew i couldnt win, so i hunkered down behind my starbases and waited for exhaustion. ended on white peace, but got lots of free tech... definately worth.

i'm curious how this happened. in my experience if you fully occupy a claimed system then you keep it under a status quo

edit: well, unless it was a war type that didn't involve territory changing hands

Maybe he hadn't made his claims yet? I often find myself taking stuff and waiting for the influence to come in.

Still, you shouldn't ever be surprised by an ally's peace offer. They're pretty predictable.

I always decline the federation invitation from the AI. Let's just be an introvert xenophobe dictator and conquer the galaxy, subjugate everyone.

Anyway tribute is very rewarding in 2.2, never need dyson sphere and matter decompressor anymore.
