I'm sure i read a while ago that the devs were looking at changing the way warfare works as in changing ship strengths but they didn't want to just " spin the wheel of the meta ". Can we expect any changes to the meta of neutron launchers and giga cannon battleships any time soon?

One of the devs said in a comment on one of the recent dev diaries (about a week ago) that he was interested in changing this. I don't think it will be coming in this patch, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next one had some changes to address this.

Now what will be changing this patch is math of static defense vs fleets. Defense platforms are getting a lot of buffs, and planetary rings will allow further stacking of combat strength in some system. Then add in Bulwarks getting another paragraph or so of defensive buffs, and it's possible that static defenses will pose a real threat to an offensive fleet.

The System is inherently flawed and it will only come down to more mediocre number stacking and fleet stacking without a proper complex system to have engaging and fun experience during war time.
Hype relays and the YEET are the additions so that frustratingly waiting for your fleet to arrive is not as frustrating and punishing anymore.
Adding more "power" to defense will just push the incentive to stack all your military might to capture one system and we will basically return to Stellaris 1.X where Doom stacks where rampant and shunned upon. I don't know why we don't talk about the fact that we still have Doom stacks only consisting of multiple fleets?
We need a system so that we don't have and can only use one big blob in warfare anymore.

That is still a thing. And it will always remain a thing as long as destroying the enemy fleet remains the primary objective of every war.

What we need is for occupation to count more towards victory, especially occupation of populous planets. And to make enemy invasions from multiple directions a more serious threat. And orbital rings with defensive platforms are actually detrimental to that.

isn't that already a thing? taking a populous planet can put a serious dent in your economy, personally i would love a supply or logistic system to reduce doomstack but what would really be a game changer imo is removing the automatic rebuilding of starbase or allowing you to modify them after capture, this might force players to spread out their fleet more evenly. So while you go with your doomstack taking a few systems the enemy with his multiples fleets has already destroyed all of your industrial potential and encirclement is actually possible.

Unfortunately, the change we should expect is for Neutron Launchers to become even more dominant, as planetary rings with stacks of defense platforms make the current best anti-station meta even better.

The Gigastructures mod has a reasonable solution for this -- fleets of free non-FTL Strike Corvettes can be built to defend your worlds instead of static, zero-evasion platforms -- but that's not the direction we see Overlord taking.
