Stellaris: the grand strategy game? Why not play a developed galaxy?

Guys, the game is in such a state, that it can surely facilitate both ideas.

No one is saying to change the design away from the 4x mode.

Mods and scenarios can surely and easily add custom modifiers to specific named empires or to empire types to make the game asymetric.

When CK2 gained Random World, the consensus on Reddit was "This is a neat gimmick, but the games themselves are forgettable; I can't tell you the name of my own empire".

Doing an entire game that's just the worst most-involved part of Stellaris could be neat, but they might want to crank up the flavor and the story if they try.

I am much more interested in a galaxy map editor, than "scenarios" per se.

However, I think a developed galaxy with entrenched empires could be very fun if research costs were turned way up allowing for a millennia of warfare instead of two centuries. Of course, that would require the game to solve the problem of either grinding to a halt either because of overpoluation/lag or stalling out into boring stagnation due to zero pop growth."

Honestly, that sounds like running observer mode for 50 years at game start before picking your empire, which sounds awful. You'd spend all your time and resources just trying to fix whatever mess you started with, meanwhile the AI can just coast along with AI bonuses making up for inefficient colony design,
