This seems like it must be such a tiny, simple, easy little fix, and it's *incredibly* frustrating for those of us who put a lot of thought into our starting leader.

Fans and players appear to have diagnosed this a long time ago: starting leaders don't have a leader "type," so they have no pool to return to upon losing election. It sounds like simply assigning the starting leader a random leader type, or the Governor leader type, would fix this completely.

This couldn't take you more than 10 minutes to fix. It's such a tiny glitch. It would be SO nice to fix. Please?

Steps to reproduce the issue.
* Start any game as an Empire with a Democratic or Oligarchic form of government
* Play the game until your initial, starting leader loses their first election
* Your initial, starting leader is now deleted

Its my main reason never to Play a democratic empire. It breaks ur heart if ur Chosen one dies from losing an election and u in General lose all ur higher Level Leaders in democratic votes, because they cannot bear to be kicked from the Chair of power.

had this today. I was like, where did my LEADER go and he was never found.

I guess he made a suicide upon losing elections or decided that life of politics is not for him. Fine by me, but I just thought that I, as (new) supreme leader should be informed.

Has this been resolved in 2.6? I don't want to play ever democratic empire until this is fixed.

EDIT: I went and did it anyway. I can confirm that this is now fixed.

Just had this happen to me. Don't think it's fixed yet. Although I will say my ruler was the head of the least popular faction at the time. So, I dunno if that effects it. I was also an oligarchy, I didn't think this bug existed, so I didn't bother to pay the 200 influence to keep my old leader, I figured she'd make a great governor (or whatever she turned into)

No it isn't, it happened to me in my current game, lost the first election and gone completely. The various scientists that won/lost the subsequent elections transitioned back to being scientists when they lost but the original leader disappeared.

2.6.1 with just the early (pre 2.0) DLC and no mods...

Just had this happen to me as well. Would love it if they default to Governor.
I was annoyed even more because I spent influence to improve her chances of winning the election, she was at 46% above everyone else 23% and somehow she still lost.

3.0 apparently just makes it so your starting ruler turns into a governor. This is... kind of bad for empire types where that's not the pool your *new* ruler was drawn from, but I suppose it qualifies as the bare minimum amount of work necessary to say "we fixed the bug!"

With any luck, the fix will even work, and not get regressed in a future patch, too.
