Hello,
Before 2.0 me and several of my friends were playing games of Stellaris and while we occasionly run into problems, overall it was a good experience - we were playing it very casually and barely any rivalry in mind. We were playing on 5 Speed, dropping to 4 Speed when our empires grew big, and occasionaly to 3 Speed when we were in the state of war. After 2.0 our enthusiasm for the game dropped because of two reasons - dropping other FTLs (especially warp, which made the game far simpler) and increasing the amount of micro, with sectors still not working efficiently.
Therefore, we stopped playing and I was supposed to observe if "micro problem" was getting solved by Paradox. At first it was looking great with first Dev Diaries describing new economy system. However, when I actually launched the game and started playing 2.2 it turned into dissapointment, as not only the system was hard to read, it required intensive attention.
I have read several arguments defending current economy saying that you can easily master it, and this version is far more complex, near Victoria level. Maybe, but in Victoria we could easily run the game on almost max speed, and in a lot of cases economy would run itself, while you were busy microing in French-Prussian war. Me, and especially my other friends are not experienced as others - how are we supposed to have good experience in multiplayer if we can not reliable steer our countries, when we are playing without pause?
I will not even touch the problem of lag and performance, because in multiplayer we never reached later portion of the game, but if rumours about massive lags are true, this is death sentence to any good multiplayer experience. I would like to organize some more multiplayer sessions in Stellaris with them in the future, but really, is current gameplay for multiplayer enjoyable at all?
