Figured it out, the auto clicker is immediately enabled if you click too much too fast, and any clicks accrued during that time are invalidated. It's designed as an macro-defeat mechanism, but also does make this tedious as heck because if you have any real mouse clicky skill, it's not hard at all to trigger it manually.
I highly doubt this to be true. I admit I can't see it actually doing anything; it's not causing clicks and it is not deleting clicks either. Maybe it's adding clicks to the total?

BTW: I was up to something like 60 blueprints, now the game is suddenly saying 11. I am confused.
EDIT: The blueprint disappearance was caused by checking site source code, causing the numbers to reset to what they had originally been downloaded as. Game itself still knew my true numbers.

This is just plain awful. -10 hype.
Had a crack at it yesterday but now they've moved the goalposts massively, screw it you can keep the graphics card.

I would sorta understand this if it was 1 click / person / day on a site covered in trailers and dev diaries and stuff. It'd make sense as a group-building marketing schtick of no particular concern, like a better organized version of the various HoI spam your friends 'games'. I really don't get this setup, because it makes the 'genuine' users utterly trivial in the overall count compared to the few who bot heavily. That's... the opposite of what you want for hype building social media shenanigans.

I tested this with an auto clicker and by hand and the clicks are still counted. So that's probably not what it does or it doesn't work.

I must say I'm greatly disappointed with this "game". I expected it to be some simple showcase of the main game, or maybe the research / exploration part. You know, you travel through the space with your science spaceship, find anomalies and examine them, your crew gains experience and skills, you upgrade your ship with new tech, occasionally you meet some other species with which you can trade, uplift or get crew from, etc.

But instead we have gotten a cow clicker. For the unaware https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cow_Clicker
Cow clicker's purpose was to show how unfun and repetitive some games are. I can't believe Paradox copied it - do they want to show how unfun and repetitive Stellaris will be?

IMO if that's all Paradox could come up with for a pre-release minigame then they should have scrapped the idea entirely.

By "something a little special" you mean "we wanted to insult our customers by implying that they have nothing more interesting to do than repetitively click on a button with nothing whatsoever happening"?

I believe that even boting, as this game has no sense at all for anyone but autoclickers, the goal is way too far. The game is boring as hell, they could take cookie clicker and let us purchase enhancements but no, we are only supposed to click a single button in the screen to get the platyplus portrait that we all need and want after 2 billion clicks.

The fact that you're implying this indicates to me that you in fact don't have anything more interesting to do. There is nothing forcing you to participate and absolutely no reason to excessively participate. If you have better things to do, don't click - except maybe to close the tab.

there's literally zero fun doing this. there's no sense of progress, just a bunch of clicking.

if you wanted to do something special yet fun you ought to have gone to a cookie clicker esque style where you'd for example develop a planet - 100 clicks gets you a new pop, 1000 clicks get you a cool space station. this is "game" almost feels like an insult to be honest. if some random indie developer or studio would have done this i'd have dropped intrest right there - it's only because i know paradox that i dont.

At least cookie clicker has some degree of fun in it because you end up automating most of the clicking and just need to keep the thing running and check once in a while. But this stellaris minigame is really not fun at all.

Oh and my 7000 or so clicks are now 0, great.
