"Have you tried poking it?" - Albert Einstein.

There's an Einstein quote which fits better, I think.

"The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity, but not in that order."

But that is by design. The game is supposed to become more like a grand strategy game after the early parts. You aren't supposed to just survey and colonize for 100 years.

Then again: You can always choose a 1000 stars galaxy and only put a minimum of AI enemies in it, if you want to stretch the exploring phase.

Sure, it is. I read about how game phases are supposed to work but seeing how much details were put into "exploring" phase with all those anomalies, first contacts, exploring (i can't watch a stream yet, but do ppl even have proper explorers to study high-level anomalies in such conditions?) and such, its a shame that this phase is completed so fast. I can understand people who want to start playing "Grand strategy" part ASAP, it just feel that all "exploring" is finished too quick on "normal" settings.
Playing on bigger map with less other races surely can help. But will balance be OK in such conditions because right now it feel like a trade-off - you either have a "proper" Grand Strategy part (that obviously require a lot of Empires) or Exploring part.

Also maybe events that rivals pops are planting bombs etc to stir tension

Aruba sure was pissed. Hope Wiz fixes that fallen empire so it utterly crushes Arumba. :p

I don't think they are supposed to crush "normal" empires. The thing that doesn't seem to work is, that Arumba should be forced to give up the holy world if he loses the war and not keep it while only getting the debuff.

I'm only kidding about Arumba though, it's great that he tries to "break" the game because it usually ends up in a better experience for us all. It's just fun to see his inventiveness backfire now and then.

I couldn't watch the full stream so i want to ask if it was explained why the Tentacular Triumph was able to colonize a world in the middle of the xenophobic fallen empire (i tought fallen empires have instant first contact)? And are they suffering for it like arumba does?

In the original Blorg stream the fallen empires didn't reveal themselves until Wiz entered one of their colonized systems. Remember Wiz' science ships ended up trapped in FE space both times. It may be different depending on the FE type but it looks like for most of them, just dinking around inside their sphere of influence isn't enough for them to reveal themselves.

Wiz was looking at it and said he'd have to examine it to determine if it's a bug.

So what are the chances that the alliance will be stay the same when the action starts tomorrow? Those wormhole civs who build their network to have a way to their "allies" could royaly backstab said allies.

On the other hand if one side plans out a federation it could get interesting with the federation fleet. The proposer gets to be the first president so one has to chose the right guy. Someone who has the resources to build up said fleet quickly (who pays the energy support for that fleet anyway?). This could also be interesting for alliances with someone who is a bit off alone. Make them president for the time being and they can field two fleets.

And there is additional need for a downside for Rivals... i would propose slowly getting a militaristic shift in pops and rising unhappiness if you dont attack your rivals. Also maybe events that rivals pops are planting bombs etc to stir tension

Gotta disagree here... There are other types of rivalry beyond solely a military one; how about economic, or ethos, or governmental? Why should a rivalry *only* generate a militaristic shift in pops? What should happen for other types of rivalries? Also, depending on the Ethos and Government of a race, a military shift might actually benefit that race in some way, say in the form of improved war happiness and/or tolerance. Furthermore, you do take a hit in terms of opinion from alien races for each rivalry, which does affect your diplomacy options directly and indirectly.

Didn't Wiz say that they weren't playing on the latest build ?
Maybe the real last version has the FE empire working as designed, while the (potential) bug is still in the built they were playing on.

Good to know Arumba is looking for glitches, bugs and does risk this, as it seems on purpose.
I mean to recall he did it four times, the settling in FE territory.
Best QA is the one that's looking for issues were no issues are expected.
Nice.

Sure, it is. Playing on bigger map with less other races surely can help. But will balance be OK in such conditions because right now it feel like a trade-off - you either have a "proper" Grand Strategy part (that obviously require a lot of Empires) or Exploring part.

I mean it makes sense. You have 22 players not counting AI Empires on a 300 star map. If we average out exploration speed for everyone we end up with 300/22 = 13.6 (let's round up) = 14. So every player only gets around 14 stars to explore. That's discounting AI empires or stars taken up by Fallen Empires. Makes complete sense that exploration phase is done quickly. Which is most likely the point of selecting so many people on that map size, so that the audience will be entertained by wars.
