Description
Grunur digsites

Game Version
3.3.1

What version do you use?
Steam

What expansions do you have installed?

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
first of all, Grunur precursor seems to COMPLETELY drown out all other precursors in terms of chance. 5-6/10 games is Grunur
and even then, digsites after the first VERY often spawn way too far away. 10+ systems, inside other empires territory etc. once it even happened inside a fallen empire.
same goes for zroni, but that precursor is so rare anyways.

overall, there are issues with precursors alltogether. but the digsite related ones seem to be the worst by a landslide. its been an issue since they were introduced, but it has been getting progressively worse over time, and im just sick of it at this point.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
get Grunur precursor, which should be easy enough, and do the digsites. first one starting the chain is usually only 1-2 jumps from home system. 2nd or 3rd might be too. but i would estimate a 30%ish chance it spawns either inside another empire or too far away to be viable.

didnt consider the need for screenshot/savegame. especially since this is such a regular issue. obviously i cant recreate the silly ones, but ill attach a screenshot from my most recent game, which made me quit in frustration and make this post.

These digs spawning in the Empire of Far Far Away is really really annoying. A nextdoor empire isn't too bad, but still sucks. To be honest, I'm not sure why they don't just all spawn in the same system. It is super easy to make a solar system with all the necessary planet classes and such. Also, as I pointed out in a post in 'Suggestions', the Special Project ones (Cybrex, Yuht, etc) all spawn inside your territory, so it's really puzzling why the choice was made to make the digsite ones not also do this. The relics are not even super overpowered when compared to the reward for, say, The Cybrex.

I don't know if it's possible or not, but I've never played a multiplayer game where more than one player got the Grunur, so even that isn't an issue.

Happening to me as well, fourth time now, also happens with the Zroni; and I thought the digsite precursors would be the safe bet, since I can't get anomalies for the others to spawn, I get stuck at 2/3/4 out of 6

Having digsites too far away indeed should be looked into, but the reports of getting the same precursor too many times is just plain bad luck. For example, I've gotten the Grunnur maybe once in the last six games and the Zroni not at all.

i always thought Grunur was easy to trigger because of player's tendency to send their initial scout ship to a system with a habitable planet showing. If an arch site pops then it has a chance? time to start digging (in the files that is)

So what fires when you survey a planet. So my understanding is that the value is the percentage chance but I don't recall the article on where they discuss how their random test works.

n_survey = { events = { action.24 advisor.10 advisor.15 advisor.25 country.52 progress.2 galactic_features.300 #story.307 anomaly.6660 anomaly.6661 anomaly.6662 action.12 tutorial.50 tutorial.55 leviathans.2010 distar.130 action.94 # strategic resource discovered distar.256 #Phaseshifting Planet #distar.11002 # distar strategic resource discovered ancrel.2050 ancrel.6150 ancrel.6151 ancrel.9999 # Spawns Archaeology Sites galactic_features.368 # Tiyanki Home System } random_events = { 100 = 0 6 = precursor.1 6 = precursor.500 6 = precursor.1000 6 = precursor.1500 6 = precursor.2000 15 = ancrel.2000 35 = ancrel.1 } }

So that last random bit leads to...
  • Vultaum
  • Yuht
  • First League
  • Irassian
  • Cybrex
  • Grunur/Baol
  • Zroni

Going to bump this up because this is still an issue.

Grunur digsites will still spawn in fallen empires and they will still spawn in neighboring empires. Also it's still a god awful event chain to get if you want to play tall because if you try to do it early it's going to insist that you claim more systems than you want. If you wait, well you might not get screwed but hat a late start at best, but again you can still get screwed.

Now if this is intended design the devs might wan to really rethink it because it takes a massive dump on tall players. Also it's really bad design to have a game element that goes "I've decided you have to play wide because you got this RNG dependent event and no, don't give a damn if you wanted to play tall. If you try to play tall, then prepare to be punished for doing so!" Precursor events really should have no bearing on whether a player goes for a tall empire or a wide empire in the current playthrough. That should be a choice the player makes at the very start of the game or at least after they see what their initial galactic geography looks like in terms of hyperlanes.
