Well, now we NEED East vs West and/or a modern world game so that we can carry a megacampaign from 1066 to the Heat Death of the universe.
You're missing the point by so much it's rediculous. Multiple federations exist at the same time and compete with one another. They don't "rise and fall" 10 times in the same game. If you had been paying attention when you read my post or the RPS article you would know that. At this point you sound like you're being negative just for the sake of being negative. But if you can form 10 of them in a game then they can't really be all that special. When they rise and fall and rise again it's not really a major part of how you run your nation, just used for convenience...
Do we know the timespan of the game? I hope that if the game lasts something like a thousand years -and although there are no tech trees- the technological evolution has a visible impact on warfare and strategies, akin to how units in other Paradox games gain or lose relevance as time goes on.
That's a tricky thing to ask; we have no clues to what a sentinent alien race would look like. Modified humans and anthropomorphic earth organisms are pretty much all we have to rely on.
Nah. Just make it so that they only way you can convert from HoI to Stella is by conquering the world. Then you get to play either Space Nazis or Space Communists.Well, now we NEED East vs West and/or a modern world game so that we can carry a megacampaign from 1066 to the Heat Death of the universe.

Because I'm looking for new games to be excited about?
Why are you here if you've made your mind up and you don't want to read anyone elses opinions?
I'm still looking forward to HoI4, still got plenty of excitement for that. But not for this. Sorry if I'm harshing your buzz, but I'm not excited about a project that I really thought I was going to be.
Yes, but I will add to this that federations aren't a government type. Like I said, they're more like the HRE in EU4 or a kingdom in CK2. But the factions inside a federation will have different government types and races, like you said.I will add to this - there are multiple government types (union, league, confederation and kingdom, maybe more) and multiple phenotypes that'll react differently due to their culture and ethics. It basically means that there will be a lot of going on inside of each such entity.

would there be a fleet solely for the federation in space empires v?This was in Space Empires V, and I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from that game. Basically Federations were treaties with some clause (open or closed membership, tech sharing or not and so on) between two or more races, that resulted in a very close alliance (not quite US level, more like the British Commonwealth). Then the treaty could be modified by majority votes.

yeah because what the rps article said was you could draw together all of the races in the federations ship upgrades to create the federations fleet but you lose the fleet if you lose the election. You know, I don't really remember this bit. I think they retained separate military commands, but would automatically partecipate in the same battles, if in position to do so.
in an article it said you could choose a from a few types of ftl one of them being pre set pathsUmm, I have seen from one screenshot what resembels "starlanes". Plz no starlanes, unless we the players make some gate like thing to travel much faster than current FTL tech we posses. But plz no starlanes as base of interstellar travel. Otherways it looks pretty good and sounds good.
There will be 3 different ways of faster than light travel in the game. Hyperlanes (I think that's what they'll be called) from system to system, there will be warp travel which gives greater freedom of movement but is slower and there will be wormholes which will allow long distance travel to stations set up at the edge of Solar systems. Each nation chooses one of these at the very beginning, so you can choose to use the lanes or not.Umm, I have seen from one screenshot what resembels "starlanes". Don't you mean 769?Well, now we NEED East vs West and/or a modern world game so that we can carry a megacampaign from 1066 to the Heat Death of the universe.
The problem with excessively "alien" aliens is that without resource competition, there is no tension, and thus a very different (and less crucial) interaction.
Thus, all species need to occupy and consume land / territory in a way that is mutually exclusive. Some may have advantages (higher utility) in certain terrain, planet, or system types. Competition may develop early or late (as with Space Empires V, where expansion can be peacefully overlapping without competition, until certain enabling colonization techs are discovered).
It might be interesting to have some factions be initially able to only minimally interact, though. What if you can't engage with them in any way (no combat, no border controls, no diplomacy) until the mid-game...
