Was there another new announcement?

Nothing new since the last post on twitter. Also on the original Stellaris there is nothing, especially as they were always the more active social media squad of the paradox titles. Well they hadn't something like this for a while and negative press is always more difficult than having fun with your community.

I'm really shocked some QA didn't run a reverse image search macro during said process.

Detecting art theft isn't that difficult a task, but the predatory MTX is a large letdown.

I can't decide which one has me more disappointed
Really speaks to the lack of oversight. If anyone outside of Bungie or 343 could recognize a Halo tank, it's the Stellaris arm of PDX. They always talk about how they reference and draw from other sci-fi work. Even disregarding that, the quality of the stolen art itself is shoddy. There's a ramp that literally fades to nothing, and there's a gunship half opacity in the shot.

Looks like they added ethics and gov styles. What is a shocker is that even without the art issues they would not get called out for that reskin.I mean it looks more or less the same as the Stellaris screenshots posted.

Wasn't that game made with assets they stole from Stellaris in the first place?

Yes, which makes it even funnier. Stellaris has loads and loads of fantastic art that they could have dropped into the game, and yet these scummy developers still decided to steal art from another IP.

Because, unfortunately, not enough people buy premium games on mobile.

The situation may change in the future, with the introduction of cloud gaming services and subscription services we might see viable ways of making non-f2p games work on mobile, but right now that isn't the case.

This is only one game out of our entire catalogue, if it isn't your thing, keep an eye out for the news from PDXCon.

Look you won't get anywhere by just following the trend of making predatory games. You'll damage your brand, company and IP's reputation.

Predatory games on mobile are just time wasters designed to milk money from unsuspecting people who love your company and IP AND have trouble managing their addictions. None of the people who spent money on mobile games felt happy or relaxed afterwards, it's only a way to cope with the frustration induced by those games. My friend spent 100€ on a mobile game from an IP he loved and regretted every single cent he spent. I never spent more than 20€ on those but when i realized what i did, i instantly uninstalled.

There is currently no supply for premium mobile game. That's also why there is no demand.
Back in 2012 there was no demand for GSG, but you finally created it with CK2.

Paradox was one of the company we'd expect to try something new and make games their employee would like to play, rather than aim for quick cash grabs.

Wow, sure seems like a lot of people feel strongly about this Paradox.

Can't help but wonder if these same people might have been interested in playing a fun mobile game sold at cost + fair margin.

No that would be impossible. As we all know mobile games are the way they are because that's the way they've always been. Seriously... *shakes head.

Why would you try to leverage your massive existing fan base into a solid product? Crazy, I know.

Oh come on man... your point is valid and taken, but it is not like PDX chose to experiment in the mobile market with any random brand, new or extant. It had to be friggin' stellaris, with all that has been going on with it's own bittersweet development. I wouldn't even be discussing it here if they went for a "fruit-farm" or "animal rescue" kinf of thing. What makes it infuriating is that we are here everyday pitching ideas for stellaris, and what they do is to waste time seeking a chinese company (which already had stolen from stellaris) and strike this "deal with the devil" with them - all while the house dev team reduces DD periodicity and, why not say it, quality and creativity.

I know some people dont agree that both titles compete. Guess we'll see abour that, when the new DLC is announced. I for one think companies do not mantain two products that compete so one is bound to take something from the other. That it had to be this colossal goat-fudge with these chinese guys, only add insult to injury.

I would totally give mobile gaming a better chance if they would be like Apple Arcade. Without the overview of apple, mobile gaming is mostly a cesspool. But as noted there can be some quality titles on there. But a microtransaction mess will never be that.

Both Apple and Google have already concluded that this type of game is in it's way out, so they're making sure people have a reason to use their OS for gaming while the popularity of Free to Pay "games" wanes and especially once public outrage about these business practices reaches a breaking point and the market collapses.

Remember when the devs poked fun at lootboxes and such with the reliquary/slots caravan mechanics in Stellaris? Now a year later we get p2w microtransactions in a freemium mobile Stellaris. Not so funny now, I suppose.

Its funny. There are a lot of puns, jokes and stuff about greed, gamble, microtransactions and stuff in the game xD

Think my next playthrough will have a subservient sub species called Chinese and look as close to whinny the pooh as possible.

At this stage paradox probably wants to cut ties but knows it can't. China defends their own and stolen art assets into a contract breach won't allow the company to recoup even the likely legal costs, let alone sunk investment, assuming it even is successful. The more likely outcome is paradox gets to dump whatever minor unpaid obligations if any, say goodbye to any owed them, and watch anything they put in dev or programming wise get taken and reused without apology in some other title before long.

I don't blame paradox for wanting to branch into mobile, even for p2w mobile. I don't blame them in any way for the ip theft and further assume they really do care and are trying to put a stop to them. I blame paradox, the very top at least, for a MASSIVE failure in judgment. This isn't uncharted territory. This is what these companies do, what even the most ardent trump haters end up conceding to agree with him on china doing this to others, this is something anyone could have seen if teaming with them, and it was literally done by the very company, with stellaris assets. How can you not see this coming?

The only hope now is to patch up any potential legal liability, plug any further sharing of intellectual property, and recoup whatever they can when this seemingly abortion of a game attempt opens it cash shop.

Personally, I will still trust the devs/staff implicitly, the best in the business... but paradox suits I now have to believe are idiots.

Hire more programmers and artists, rent more office space, have a mobile games team. Don't sell your soul to a chinese company already known for lack of ethics. Come on.

Nooooo, not at all. This is a legal thing called guilt or liability in eligendo/vigilando. It means you are responsible for the damages caused by who you hire or subcontract, and for not overseeing what they are doing. Well in my country anyway, but I am sure its a similar thing most everywhere else.

I don't think it is a valid excuse for PDX to say "look, it wasn't us!". Doesn't work thay way. Morally too, btw, perhaps even more so.

Paradox interactive and paradox development studio is not the same thing. The first is the Publisher and the second is a developer. I don't know when paradox split into two parts or if it have Always been that way but anyway it is important to know there is two entities with the name paradox and the developer part have as far as I can tell nothing to do with this game.

Hire more programmers and artists, rent more office space, have a mobile games team. Don't sell your soul to a chinese company already known for lack of ethics. Come on.
I Agree, it is the safe option because you know what you get rather than having to risk lawsuits and other issues that comes with unreliable developers and paradox have the Money to do so.
