I have noticed that managing stellaris economy is a bit of a mess. basically unless you are tracking the production of your planets somewhere both current and their final state you start to get a bit lost.

This is particular an issue in huge galaxies when you have lots of planets.

I think the biggest issue is that I dont know how much food, consumar goods, motes etc I am currently producing and how much I will produce. so it is quite simple to suddnely find yourself with a deficit of motes or consumar goods. Overall a lot of this could be sorted out with a ledger that would detail both current resource production and resource production when all planet construction is finished and all buildings are fully staffed.

I also think it would be good to maybe change the trade view overlay as currently it isnt entirely userfriendly to easily see how much trade is flowing and where and what are the piracy issues.

I think stellaris is pretty unique in this but it really could use a way to see what is going on.

yeah that would help too I remember building like crazy and suddenly realising am in the red with minerals and rares. stellaris shouldnt need an excel or some other way of keeping track of your production.

I was considering switching to academic privilege the other day, and it dawned on me there is no way that I've found - short of going through each planet and counting - to figure out how many, e.g. specialists your empire has, or that a given species in your empire has. So, if you want to switch to a higher consumer goods using living standard, you have no way to predict how it will effect your economy, you simply have to guess.

Giving that there's a ten year cool down on changing these things, that seems needlessly arsey.

Even with the limited information at your disposal, it is still possible to make an educated guess without undue fuss.
Firstly, your total pop count is constantly available to you, which can quickly provide you with a worst-case scenario if you assume all pops are of the type that're worst affected.
If you want a more accurate and reasonable estimate, you can use the stratum distribution of one or two planets to estimate your empire-wide stratum distribution.

I agree with the idea of a ledger. In my games I see my energy income fluctuate from month to month -- due to new pops taking jobs, buildings being built, starbase upgrades, taking my fleets out, etc, etc -- and I've found myself wishing for a graph of my historical energy income and expenditure so many times. Similarly for all the other resources, but energy especially since it's used for so many things.

A ledger could also provide some currently missing overviews. Whenever I wonder what the crime figures are like I currently have to click through each of my planets (there's also no warning indicator when crime is non-zero). There are many other things that are not displayed on the planet/sector management screen that are perhaps better off in a ledger than being crammed onto a single management screen.

Wait -- isn't current production right there at the top of the screen?

And it only changes when you build stuff.

I reckon the best way would be to have the following

1. Current production/Current use or even just current balance
2. The same but after edicts
3. the same but once all current production is done

I am of the oppinion that any time a report is required/or very useful then the game should provide it rather than forcing you to either gas (something which is quite hard) or needing to do one yourself.

I just want the outliner to not be a pos.

Did the devs ever play more than 100 years into a Stellaris game before they just quit because their game started to lag too much? Once you actually get to end-game your outliner is like 10 full pages long, with no way to organize or categorize at all, its ridiculous.
