Good afternoon,
I currently have only the base version of Stellaris on Xbox one X. I got it because my computer is too slow to run the game properly and it was crashing often, even on small maps. I figured it would be better on console, and I admit, it is better, but still not good enough. Before going to war with an Awakened Empire I controlled half the galaxy through simply expanding with construction ships. I had defeated a couple empires in defense, and I had made one empire a tributary. After I defeated an Awakened Empire, the game got really slow, and started crashing occasionally. It wasn't too bad yet, but once I took over the last Fallen Empire, and declared war on what was left of the Awakened Empire, it got even slower and crashed more often. I now control probably 70 or 75 percent of the galaxy directly, and the game is crashing every 10 minutes or so. I am very close to getting to the end came crisis, whatever that is, but I don't think I can handle the constant crashes. I have never made it to the end game because of this, and I don't think I ever will.
Why does the game do this? The Xbox one X is supposed to be able to run practically anything, but for some reason Stellaris struggles a lot. Is there anything I can do that will help it run better?
Thank you

What settings did you use at empire creation? (To check you can go to start a new game, it'll show your last used settings)

It is probably the habitable worlds that are causing problems, set it to no higher than X1.5

Well, I will give this a try on my next run, but it seems like one change might not be enough. I can see how that would help though. I do have 145 planets, half of them conquered though. Th e weird thing is that I had no problems before I started taking over territory. I controlled half the galaxy and had no problems even though the whole galaxy was occupied.

I have 10 empires, large, 1.0 planets but invader crisis and war in heaven and get crashes every 15 to 40 minutes on Xbox Series X after only 220 years. :(

I hope 2.6 improves it.
this is part of the reason why you are crashing so much

the biggest issue the game has is pops...which ironically are the key thing to doing pretty much everything in this game

the games internal ai has to do regular checks on pops for a multitude of various things like ethics, resources, jobs, etc

this doesn't just apply to only your empire, any empire that exists, whether it can be seen or not, also under goes these checks

with so many ai empire, especially in a large galaxy, will eventually lead to crashing or heavy lag around the 2400 year mark

this is often why many of us advocate for tweaking in game settings to be lowered so that the chances for lag or crashes are reduced; and also advocate for more careful planet colonization efforts

as an example; if you play with 10 ai empires, tune in down to 6. if you have 3 fallen empires go down to 2 or 1. if you have 2 marauder empires take that down to either 1 or 0. keep habitable worlds at x1 or x2 at the most, the same should also apply to primitive civilizations.

this in essence should drastically help with lag and crashing problems. they may still occur, but it should happen later.

I usually pause when resettling pops. When I select a planet with lots of pops like ecumenopolis it crashes after playing for a while. But it works after a fresh reload.

But if there is an option for 10 empires the game should be playable with it. (bad QA/testing?) Especially on Series X. I hope 2.6 had enough optimizations to run on it. The patchnotes mention several improvements on pc.

If you experience crashing after the update (on a new save!) on March 25th (tomorrow!), please go to support.paradoxplaza.com and open a ticket for Stellaris: Console Edition.
