Description
AI, Tech, & Terraforming Bugs (2.2.2[5b48])
Game Version
2.2.2(5b48)
What version do you use?
Steam
What expansions do you have installed?
Utopia,
Leviathans Story Pack
Do you have mods enabled?
No
Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I've noticed a number of minor issues in my game on 2.2.2, thought I should mention them. I'll state them by category. I'm at roughly year 2366, mid-size galaxy (I think), 9 empires, 2 fallen, mid-crisis 2325, end-crisis 2450, end year 2700, additional gateways and habitable planets, set to scaling Captain difficulty. I do have multiple mods subscribed, but none of them are currently active.
AI:
I've recently noticed that the AI empires don't seem to be clearing tile blockers on their planets, which is seriously hampering their ability to use said planets. At first I thought they simply hadn't been researching the tech, but they haven't even cleared the initial tile blockers on their home planets that don't require any tech. I suspect the AI may not be programmed properly for doing that, or at least not for prioritizing it.
I've also noticed the AI empires making strange alliances, with empires who you would think hate each other forming federations, possibly because of rivalries or something else. Not sure if this is actually a bug or not.
Tech:
When researching stage 2 plasma weapons (the blue ones) it also unlocks something called "caravan cannons" that do +50% armor damage, but has no penalties and different damage values. The weapons seem to load onto ships like normal, but not so sure about stations. Given that stage 3 (green plasma) doesn't have this issue it's probably a bug.
Terraforming:
This is the big one. I'm a big terraformer and like to do that a lot in my plays, but it's having a problem in the new version. For some reason, when changing the climate type of a planet (e.g. wet to hot, cold to gaia, etc.), if tile blockers are still present then the number of total generator, mining, and agriculture districts available is reduced, varying each time. I've found two minor workarounds, but it's still annoying. First, terraforming a planet to the same climate type (e.g. arid to desert, forest to continental, etc.) seems to clear the tile blockers with no problem. Also, I had no problem terraforming my home planet to a gaia world after it had been colonized for a century and I'd gotten rid of the tile blockers. I suspect the problem lies with how different tile types are applied after climate type change. I have yet to complete terraforming a planet with strategic resources into a different climate type (with no tile blockers), so I can't confirm whether or not that will also interfere. I may have more information available in the next day or two on that.
However, for some reason the issue popped up again once when I was terraforming a Tundra world to an Alpine world, not sure why it gave me that issue. I was terraforming at least 10 other planets at the same time though, but no other planets have had problems with my workaround so far.
I noticed this terraforming issue back in 2.1 as well, so it probably does have something to do with the planetary overhaul.
I've also noticed increasing lag as the game goes on. It's not too bad right now, and I've seen others report it as well, but I should mention that turning off the resources always displayed tab helped slightly, as does entering a system. I suspect the lag will increase as my game goes on, but I believe this issue was present even before version 2.0.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
AI:
Uncertain, neither issue seemed to be caused by any or my actions.
Tech:
Simply research stage 2 (blue) plasma weapons, visual issues pop up in tech research and ship designer as well as station details screens.
Terraforming:
Terraform any uncolonized planet to a different climate type (wet, hot, cold, gaia), particularly one with tile blockers still present. It may also pop up on colonized worlds with tile blockers present, but cannot confirm.
