Looking at this save game, both the one from 77 and the later one, you can see that they were quite big, took the become the crisis ascension perk and then they have been losing wars and their empire is collapsing.

The one thing I could say is potentially an issue is that they are using minerals to build ships to try and fight their war instead of using it to rebuild their dying economy, however, in reality they are getting wiped out regardless so I can't blame them for building ships either in a last attempt to survive.

Overall seems to be nothing out of the ordinary given that they are collapsing due to become the crisis perk

thanks for looking into it, @Offe . One thing I might suggest is that empires across the board should be more aggressive in selling excess resources (e.g. this empire's 14K food stash) when they are short of needed resources for wars / economic rebuilding. Your team might recall that my pet peeve from my 3.2 megapost was that AIs don't effectively use the market when they have very unbalanced resource stockpiles (lots of some, little of others) and an obvious potential "TODO" list.
MMmhm, yeah how AI is using the market is something we talk about quite often. They do sell resources when they eventually get capped out and they do buy resources when they reach 0, other than that they dont really use the market.

Haven't had time to look into it, we mostly focus on AI trying to build a stable economy in the first place instead of trying to fix their issues by using the market if that makes sense.

I really want to look into increasing how much AI is using the galactic market though as it would be very cool to have AI empires who trade a lot on it. For example selling food and buying alloys etc would be super interesting, but yeah time

seems like the AI needs some type of estimate of resource constraints. if it wants to build 10 ships and 4 buildings and can't, then, can it sell some resource where it does not estimate any need for stockpile drawdown in order to fund the things it wants to do?

it'd be work but it would be very valuable and well-received work
Yeah I have been close to making some AI logic where it can buy stuff that it needs if its able, but i actually never got around to do it. The case I was wanting to do it for was that AI would just buy all the resources it needs for a colony ship if it can afford it but yeah, this would be super useful for other stuff as well
