The Devs have said that they're selling it on their website with a Steam Code, so you'll be playing it/downloading it THROUGH Steam, but buying it through them.

You get the steam code pretty quickly, got mine about half an hour or so after I pre ordered.

I've only purchased games for Windows PC and not used Steam. So, am hesitant to pre-order since it comes with an application for Steam.

Steam is, as far as I know, is a distribution platform. But, if If Paradox is also distributing Ancient Space then I must ask;

What reason is there to get the game through Steam?

I cannot see Ancient Space on Steam. Am I not looking properly? Does P'Dox intend on putting it on Steam?

Thanks

It's on Steam, just not for sale on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/249190 at least not until release date.

Why? Likely because pre-ordering direct from Paradox means more revenue for the devs and Paradox since Steam won't be taking it's cut of the profits.

One of the big advantages to Steam (to me anyway) over a direct download like Humble Store or Good Old Games offers, is not having to hassle with downloading a 10+ gig game and then needing an additional however many gigs the game is free to install it, as well as needing to keep the downloaded install backed up somewhere. (Not a big deal with only a couple of games but when you have 70+ games you own digitally it sucks up a huge chunk of space in a hurry, I also find the auto update of patches and cloud saving to be quite convenient over the old "hunt for somewhere to download the patch, wait ages for it to download at the sites capped bandwidth for free users, then back up the patch somewhere for when you need it again in the future, and needing to remember check for new patches every few weeks" Hassle.
