I know HOI3 is being released on Steam and was just wondering what kind of information we can be given on if the game will be patched and updated in line with releases from Paradox. HOI2 is up to date now as is EU3 however they were very slow in applying it.
Is this up to Paradox or Steam ?

I love steam as a platform but prefer to not have to wait for such things as patches.

I would jsut buy it from gamersgate or a boxed copy I have had problems with patches from steam games not from valve themselves.

All I could say is if patches were an issue with HOI2 in steam, chances are you will have issues with HOI3, because I believe Paradox would have to coordinate with Steam an updated version of the game. If they have a history of doing so in an ill-timed manner, well one could only expect that issue to continue in the future.

We will supply patches to everyone at the same date, we have no preferred partners and it is up to every download portal to get the patches up and running.

I guess this means that depending on the workload of the portal it may take everything from a few hours up to two weeks.

Steam doesn't disable accounts without reason. If they did, contact them. If you did something stupid with your account, don't complain.

Now that I think about it Steam will be fine. The issue with Steam patching is for older games and hence not as popular in terms of sales so I guess they dont tend to worry about it. New games all seem to get regular updates so I doubt it will be a problem.

I'm not saying Steam is going to take 2 weeks, they are probably quite fast in their patching process with HoI3.

I just wanted to clarify we are not letting some people have the patch earlier

Come on... you whine in every thread about steam... did you get money for it? I have got steam till 2006/7 dont know anymore... they never disabled my account, i also bought games via Steam... no problem at all with them...

The accout of a friend of mine was hacked, and he did contact steam, no problem at all he got it back!

Buy the game wherever you want... but dont share your "experiences" with steam...

My brother's account got hacked too. He didn't get it back. Thankfully, he didn't have much games there at the time.

I havent had any issues with steam. Most of my buddies use it and we have done MP with HoI2 many times. Seems to work great for me. As far as account bans. Unless you account was registered to someone else dont see why ou couldnt get it back. Any issues me and my friends have had were always fixed quickly.

My brother befriended a guy, who tricked him into revealing his logon info. And promptly this "friend" took over the account of course. My brother's young and gullible as you can understand. But he never got his account back.

If it's an issue with Valve Anti Cheat, then I think you're in big trouble. But that only affects Valve anti-cheat.


But I'm surprised he was never able to get the account back.

Uh? Valve what? My brother never cheated in games I think, but that's irrelevant to this discussion?

The only issue I have heard of where Valve absolutely will not restore an account is if it was a Valve Anti Cheat violation. Valve Anti Cheat is a system they have set up for their games (like Counterstrike, a multiplayer FPS), where if you get caught using third party software, you are no longer able to join servers validated by Valve Anti Cheat. If someone hacks your account and violates VAC, then I believe you're SOL.

But unless there's some unusual aggravating circumstances, I'm surprised that a general hack of an account was not able to be restored.

I've had steam since HL2 and I have never had problems with it, I have a bunch of games on there. I usually only use Steam to avoid getting securom or whatever on my computer when I don't know whether or not the game comes with it. That being said, I'm going for the physical medium, it's only 4 miles to the mall so no downloading every time I format.
