Dear Support,

I purchased a 'gold edition' some time ago and have troubles running the game with the DLCs that came along.

- The most frustrating unfeature is that the Ruler Designer does not run. It appears on the launcher, checked, yet once the game is launched and I am in the single player game-setup, it merely shows me a button for it. Then, I click to get told I needed to have the DLC.

- Second: Is it possible that further DLCs (I got the Celtic stuff just today from Steam) may kill my save games? I get crashes to desktop.

Thanks.
RL

Edit: I just went to the DLC folder. It appears to me that the DLC 5 has a zip just 1 KB large and empty. Normal?

For the 1st and 2nd one, are you sure that the game is up to date? In the main menu, in the bottom left corner, there's a version number and checksum. Post them here.
And yes, it's normal for DLC005.rar to be empty.

Edit: I just realised that the current patch is 1.111 (MLYP) - wonder however how to get Steam to update, and Steam is set to automatically update. ...

Try verifying the game cache.

And how exactly am I supposed to do this being completely crippled with this enfuriating platform named "Steam" which is just depriving me of any control of what is going on with my stuff? I mean, there was once a time when we had a button on the launcher of paradox game: "Get updates"...

Edit: Sorry for being so blunt. But each time I have to deal with Steam it causes frustration. Maybe Paradox would fare better considering another approach to distribution.

I finally got the game to 1.111/MLYP. Checked integrity.

As for the Ruler Designer DLC, it still tells me I needed it. I already have it....

But I guess I have to be glad for the save games stopped crashing.

Hi RobertLorrain,

When you open the campaign map (where you choose your dynasty), do you see the DLC icons in the bottom left corner? To be sure, they are small circles for each of the major DLC's (Republics, Sword of the Islam, Old Gods etc). Or is it still only the Ruler designer that won't work?

Hi IcratoX,

in fact, I do not see anything of that shape. The bottom left corner is merely filled with a rectangular description box about the campaign. In fact, it felt very much like no DLC was running at all. I also got the Celtic Units stuff, but Scottish armies look "normal" also despite the gold edition coming with a key to the Swort of Islam DLC, I cannot play Arab dynasties.

So I guess I got a serious problem?

It sounds like the DLC's are not getting loaded for some reason. Do you see them appearing in your launcher before starting the game?

Also could you open your steam games library, right click on Crusader Kings 2, go to properties and visit the DLC tab. Are the DLC's mentioned there?

Double yes. I can see it in my launcher, and I can see it in the Steam library properties tab. I also validated a couple of times. Launcher is set to be run as admin and so is the game exe.

Black flags should be able to get fixed by nr7 in the known issues and solutions thread: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?585481-Known-Issues-and-Solutions-to-them.

As for the game still not running with the DLC. Have you tried a Full clean reinstallation? (See instructions below).

Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder
* Go to your Steam Games library, right click on "Crusader Kings II" and select "Delete content"
* Go to the steam installation folder at '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\', and check if the Crusader Kings II folder is removed. If not, delete the entire folder
* Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Crusader Kings II folder
* Install the game, make sure you install the game outside the 'C:\Program Files\' or 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' folders, as it can cause issues with permissions

Thank you sooo much. This post was really helpful. In fact, this post hinted at the actual issue:

The permissions were the big issue for my steam library, as it was installed on a partition with limited one. Removing the restrictions to the path cleared the way.

Thank you very very much. This was really helpful. You do a good job! :)
