Fixed my query below - needed to enable beta participation in steam settings in case anyone has the same issue in the future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could anyone help me a noob install this patch. I followed the instructions (Right-click CK2, Properties, Betas) but when I get to the Betas screen the top option is Opt Out of All Beta Programs and there is no pull down option. The only other field in this screen requires a Beta code which I don't have.

Thanks for your help, really want to try this out.

Does this include mods that were Ironman-compatible pre-patch, such as graphics mods? Specifically, I'm using the Portrait Realignment Pack, will this now stop me from getting achievements?

Unless they somehow change the checksum, graphical mods should stay compatible.

Will this patch be made available for the gamersgate version when it is out of beta?

Until the GG users get their Steam keys, I take it that it will be made available.

This has been requested by many for a long time now. Achievements are not the only reason some want to play with Ironman.

I'm aware, I just didn't know why so I was attempting to make sense of it. I mean, the regular game autosaves every year and the only real difference between them is the ability to reload an earlier save. I never really save-scummed before, so the entire Ironman thing was lost on me.

I'm not even slightly interested in achievements. I like Ironman because it prevents me giving in to my temptation to reload.

Great patch PI. Thanks.

edit: and I have to say that I've never noticed a slowdown on monthly saves. An SSD is a great buy. I always autosaved monthly anyway.

I figured as much, I never really felt the temptation as I said before, so it has never bothered me but if it is a big thing for a large majority of players I understand. SSD would help, but I'm poor as hell. My game lags uncontrollable on Ironman if I go above Speed 3, and some starts are absolutely boring without being able to Speed 5 past long stretches.

Another question, will the AI finally go on pilgrimages?

Found a bug. Really easy to reproduce:

1. Start up CK2
2. Load a game in which the Schism has been mended.
3. Resign from that game.
4. Start a new game.
5. Notice that Catholicism is a Catholic heresy (wut).

Does anyone else experience the Catholic AI, besides the Pope, not being able to save enough piety to create Kingdom and Empire tier titles?

No, I see Catholics creating every kingdom and empire they possibly can, unless it's a de jure kingdom of an empire they already hold. But I don't have SoA.

Christian pilgrimages were not common, so it has a low chance of happening in-game.

From the sidelines, at least on the sideline I'm on, using historical precedent as absolute adjudicator of mechanic implementation seems odd. In a game whereby the most common method of play I've seen is to viciously and absolutely rip historical precedent to shreds.

That said I originally thought it was designed that way to avoid the decision, and the resulting events, having impact in the progress of a game but adding flavour for the player.

The code hasn't changed, they still have a low chance of taking the decision. Christian pilgrimages were not common, so it has a low chance of happening in-game.

Odd, I never actually noticed any of them ever taking a Pilgrimage. I know they aren't supposed to be all the time things but it seems different that the only Pilgrims I ever see are my own characters.

Yeah, I think it might be SoA, as they were creating kingdoms like theres no tomorrow in my games until I downloaded it.

Ok so there's a huge exploit with the "AI will always honour betrothal thing". Namely, when the betrothed come of age you can switch from regular to matrilineal and the AI will always accept. E.g. start in 1066, get the King of France to betroth your daughter, he will marry her matriliineally.

This should really be fixed before the patch leaves beta. I'll open a thread in bug reports.

This is not a bug since the AI won´t use it. It is however an exploit that a player can use to game the system so I do agree that it should be fixed.

the Khazar event troops are still bundled into a single flank, it would be great if they could be divided into three different flanks, especialy since the Pechenegs and Cumans do have theirs split up.

Will the save games we make in this Beta be compatible with the live game once the patch is officially released?
+1

I don't know whether to start a new game with the old patch or the beta. Would love to just start with the beta if it is compatible.

That's absolutely hilarious. This turns everything upside down -- instead of the AI tricking the player into matrilinear like before, you can now trick the AI!

I see also that the revoke county plot is getting more restrictions. The main incentive of intrigue gain was already removed, so this only prevents doing something silly like using it to turn a vassal into a traitor (for more revocations).
