Steam made me auto download hotfix - ironman saves are gone

Is there a way to revert this or should I just go cry in that corner over there?

I had a really fun England and Spain IM game going.

Is there a way to prevent this in the future?

I don't know if the hotfix had anything to do with you losing your ironman save...I also got the hotfix and my Great Britain save is fine...

I restarted Steam and the saves are back...odd.

Well, that's good! Turn it off, then turn it back on seems to be a surprisingly useful strategy in many cases...
