You'll have to wait and see if someone from Paradox has anything else for you to try. They are probably on vacation today for the 4th of July holiday here in the US.

FYI Paradox are a Swedish company and do not take US holidays ... they have a small marketing presence in New York, but that's it I'm afraid.

System file checker didn't find any invalid systems.

I also have tried installing Directx trough the link you provided (It was linked before by AndrewT.) Will try again, just to make sure.

I will also go trough everything once more, that has been suggested.

Thanks for help anyway, I will continue trying and report if anything appears.

Guys! I got it working!

The downside is that I couldn't point the cause. I disabled a bunch of services from msconfig, and it started working. I re-enabled everything I needed, but no effect. I will probably look into it later if I can find the program causing the crash.

Hey that's great to hear. I'm glad you were able to finally get it to work. I think most people would have given up in frustration after doing just three or four of the things you tried. Its good to see that the effort paid off in the end. I haven't seen anyone that couldn't get the game to work yet after all the necessary system software was updated and installed and I was afraid that you might be the first.

I have this exact problem including it crashing in a different location every time I run the program. Although thus far disabling services in MSConfig has not proved successful.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

I too have a similar problem.

I downloaded and installed CK2 with every available DLC from Steam back in January or February, 2013. I played a few rounds, but then moved on to other things.

Now, months later, when I try to run CK2, the following happens :

1. The launcher screen comes up, but the "mods" and "dlcs" areas are blank. I have no mods, but I have all the dlcs you could get from Steam at the time I purchased it (gold package or something).

2. When I hit the "Start CKII" button, this happens :

A dialogue comes up which says : "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The system cannot find the file specified."

Clicking Continue does nothing.

Cant understand why it worked before and now it doesn't. Cant understand why the Steam doesn't update the game, and not require me to be a tech expert. Cant understand why I would have to "re-install" anything, or "move the CK2 folder to xxxxx" = getting a little tired of having to move folders in and out of steam applications. (When can I delete them? How much space are they taking on my HDD?).

The problem you have is very different to the issue in this thread.

It sounds as though there may be an issue with your .net framework, perhaps try running windows update and selecting all the relevant updates.

Can you launch the game directly from CK2.exe in the game folder?

You are correct. This morning I looked through the known issues thread, long story short, I have the Comodo AV, and it had quarantined CK2.exe (wasn't in the game directory at all). Paradox should send a note to the Comodo company, etc.
