Was slightly sad that Battletech lost to Into the Breach for best strategy. To be fair, the Game Awards were kind of a joke, too many garbage triple A's got nominated/won and great games were left out entirely leaving me to scratch my head ie. Best Sports/Racing Game didn't have F1 2018 but had 2KNBA/FIFA and Forza? F1 2018 is an amazing sports game that utilizes voice commands and dynamic PR that makes what you say/do inside or outside the car impact your career making it incredibly immersive.
Anyways, back to Battlectech's loss.. My honest belief for this upset is solely due to the fact that more people were able to experience Into the Breach. Hell, it's my go-to game for strategy on my Nintendo Switch and FTL is my other for the iPad. Subset's first game, FTL being such a huge hit really helped Into the Breach's success even if the game itself doesn't quite warrant the hype. It's a great game but it's repetitive and predictable with little incentive to replay after beating it other than to acquire new mechs.
Subset Games is a super small indie studio though and those guys deserve the award for the work they've been able to do but since Battletech has slowly worked its way into being my favorite game of all time, tied right now with Stellaris, it was hard for me to watch xD. HBS is far from done with this game so we'll see what comes about next year and in the mean time we as the fans of this game need to get everyone we know to buy it and play it! lol Cheers.
