I just installed the game on Steam, and when I try to launch it, I see the Paradox Development Studio banner with the blue stained glass before it crashes to the desktop. According to the error.txt file, it is saying:

[persistent.cpp:40]: Error: "Unexpected token: lightTypes, near line: 1
" in file: "interface/citylights.gfx" near line: 37

Have you tried to use "Verify integrity of game cache"?

Edit: Can you upload the file here? You should find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\interface

My current install of CK2 doesn't event include the file...

I pre-purchased it directly from the Steam application.

Oh wait, I think I know what the problem is, I just realized it. I had the game installed from over a year ago when a 0.1 alpha version ended up in my Steam library after purchasing the Paradox Complete Pack. The game was removed shortly after when I opened a ticket as I was missing games that should have been in the pack, and had extra games such as CK2, the Sengoku beta, and Swords of the Stars II. I will just uninstall and reinstall it, thank you for your attention to my problem.

EDIT: The game runs fine now after deleting the game folder and reinstalling.

Excellent, this is such a weird problem that I believe that unique circumstance can really be the cause of your problems. Report back if it doesn't work out :)
