Ok, so I've understood that to make a map you need province images. I'm going to use photoshop, but what should I think about? What size and file format should I use? Any advices? And especially, what about the areas that the province doesn't cover? (Photoshop only saves quared images and my provinces aren't square-shaped). For sea provinces, should I have the costal waves on the land or sea map, or are they put there in some other way?

First off, this will probably do best to a map made from scratch. I'm using Photoshop at 1.8 Ghz with 512 MB DDR.

To get an overview of my new world, I created an image with the same size of the world (18944x7296), but in bitmap or 2-color indexed to save memory (2,56 MB for me), preferably saved in .psd or any format allowing guidelines.
Then I did the world division and I found that squares of 2432 px was both good, sufficient and fully workable (divided the map into three rows). No borders and no overlapping with neighbouring areas (I tried that but prefer this).
To get provinces right between areas, either base it on the overview-image or an example of when you've completed the upper left area and want to continue on the one below.
Expand the height (upper only) on the area below, paste the lower parts of the first area, do the painting on the area below and when you have a smooth enough provinces, contract the image to get the usual 2432x2432.

And this is only how I do it... hope it helped.

Wait a minute, are you talking about pixels? 2500x2500 pixels, or something else?

Yes, about the dimension of each work area of the world.
Will You define almost 2000 provs or 1600 provs?

Hm, I'm not sure I follow... Do you simply mean one work area = 2500x2500, or one PROVINCE (like Ile De France) is 2500x2500?

If I had to guess the map probably consists about 200-300 provinces (land) and a few ocean provinces, mostly coastal. It's a pretty small map.

Magellan can generate a blank map. My advice to you would be to generate a blank map and use that to build your new one to save you the hassle of setting up the correct size and colour parameters.

knas_knas: keep in mind that the map should ALWAYS be 18944x7296 pixels. If you want 300 provinces, you'll have to make them REALLY big to cover the map. Or you could create a border of PTI around the map to limit the size.
