Starting CIM just gives a blinking screen with a street view and nice music

I've searched through the forums but can't find a solution.

The 'Cities in Motion' won't start/play. I've tried the demo, but the only
thing that happens is a (blinking) 'street view' (the intro screen?) with a
nice tune playing.

I'm using Windows 7 (64 bits) and a NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT (so that
shouldn't be the problem).

There are no error messages and I don't now what could be the problem.

Can you please give me any suggestions what to do next? Compatibility
settings?

Thanks in advance.

You can try adjusting the graphic settings in settings.script file in your documents "Cities in Motion". You could try different screen resolution and check if it works without the fullscreen.

Hi Tommie,

I hope still read this thread. I had exact(!) the same problem but I was able to solve it.

I had played CIM for some time and then re-installed Windows, since I got a new harddrive. After that I had the same issue and was not able to play anymore. Since nothing was changed (exept HDD) it had to be some sort of software or config problem.

I reinstalled CIM - no luck
I updates DirectX - no luck
Updated graphic card driver to the very latest beta (v267.24) - no luck

Then I had a idea. The only difference between my old and the new system was indeed the NVIDIA driver! I downloaded an old version (v197 WHQL), deinstalled the current version, rebooted the machine and installed that old version. -> CIM works like a charm!

I dont know why, but my old GPU (Geforce 7950 GT) will not work with CIM if I use up-to-date NVIDIA drivers. I only registered myself here to write you, so I hope I helps you.

@co_marsu: Maybe you could point other people with similar problems in the right direction with that info.

Regards
Alex

Usually the manufacture tells you to always use the drivers that come with, and not update. But Nvidia will always tell you to use the last ones.
Hard to say which is the best.
Technology is always a try and error science.
